A First-Class Experience – Ullapool to Stornoway with Caledonian MacBraynennOur recent journey on the Caledonian MacBrayne CalMac ferry from Ullapool to Stornoway was absolutely outstanding. From the moment we arrived at the terminal, everything was handled in a calm, professional, and organised manner. Boarding was straightforward, with friendly staff guiding cars and passengers efficiently onto the vessel. The whole operation ran like clockwork and set a very reassuring tone for the trip ahead.nnWe sailed on the MV Loch Seaforth, a modern, beautifully maintained ship that made the crossing both comfortable and enjoyable. The ferry was spotless throughout — from the passenger lounges and seating areas to the café and restrooms. It’s clear that the crew take real pride in maintaining such high standards of cleanliness and presentation. The seating was comfortable, and there was ample space to relax and enjoy the scenery during the crossing.nnThe views across The Minch were breathtaking — dramatic skies, open sea, and glimpses of the Outer Hebrides coming into view. The combination of fresh air on deck and the calm, steady motion of the Loch Seaforth made the experience peaceful and relaxing. It’s without doubt one of the most beautiful ferry routes in Scotland, and travelling with CalMac really allows you to appreciate it in comfort.nnThe CalMac staff deserve special mention for their professionalism and warmth. Every crew member we encountered was polite, attentive, and genuinely helpful. Whether assisting passengers during boarding, serving food and drinks, or providing information about the crossing, they were consistently courteous and cheerful. Their approach created a welcoming atmosphere that made the whole journey feel special rather than routine.nnThe onboard catering was another pleasant surprise. The café offered a good range of freshly prepared food, including hot meals, snacks, and drinks — all served efficiently and with a smile. The food was excellent quality and reasonably priced, making it easy to relax and enjoy a proper meal while watching the sea and islands drift by.nnOur sailing ran precisely on time, and disembarkation at Stornoway was just as well organised as the departure. The staff kept everything moving smoothly, and before long we were driving off the ship and onto the beautiful Isle of Lewis — refreshed and ready to explore.nnIn every respect, our experience with Caledonian MacBrayne was first class. The MV Loch Seaforth is a credit to the fleet, and the crew exemplify professionalism, care, and hospitality. It’s rare to find travel that feels both efficient and genuinely enjoyable, but CalMac achieve exactly that.nnIf you’re planning a visit to the Outer Hebrides, the Ullapool–Stornoway ferry is not just a means of transport — it’s a memorable part of the journey itself. Superb service, immaculate facilities, delicious food, and spectacular scenery make this a five-star experience from beginning to end.
No complaints. A good operation. Would be great if they had a campervan service point like at Ardmhor.
Great service, on time, friendly staff, and beautiful journey. Very enjoyable!nThe only downside was the poor vegan options in the shop and cafeteria.
Not much to say about the Ferry Terminal. Well organised. No real facilities in the terminal building - mainly ticket sales, toilets and seats. The town is only a short walk away though with a few coffee shops and cafes, which do take aways and lovely cakes to help ease the waiting time :. Just cross the road opposite the statue of the lady with the basket. Ferry is actually very nice. Very clean, even the car decks. Food is good although obviously a bit pricey. Staff friendly and helpful.
Very friendly staff and well organised, travelling for work in a HGV they were keen to keep me updated with the parking, check in and loading process. Toilets are available in the car park 50p meter on the door, however was fixed open so no cost on my visitnCoffee onboard the isle of lewis is reasonably priced and again, staff very friendly and welcoming.
