Story

Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre is South Yorkshire’s largest community owned and operated sporting facility, providing a range of activities and facilities to the Upper Don Valley area.

The centre has recently undergone a huge refurbishment carried out entirely by local volunteers and trades people, supported by donations from local businesses, individuals and both Sheffield City Council and Stocksbridge Town Council.

We have the largest indoor Bowling Green for 30 miles providing superb facilities for bowlers. We also have a fantastic Sports Hall, a fully equipped Gym and three squash/racquetball courts. We can equip our facilities to suit your sporting needs. We also have a meeting room, The Moorland Suite, which can accommodate up to 30 people for business meetings.

Yeah its a little rough around the edges but its a community run place, so its never gonna have everything. I go for the swimming and the pool is good with decent changing facilities.

An excellent community run facility. After the council shut down this centre the local community banded together and resurrected it with the help of many volunteers. It is now a great asset to the area with a training pool, 25m swimming pool, gym, sports hall, squash courts and much more.

The Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre, is as described (community run). The atmosphere of the centre is amazing! Young and old teaming together to provide a hub for a diverse range of activities to take place. The leisure centre not only provides for the local community but also for people who live further afield. It cannot be defined as to how welcome you are made to feel there. However, its atmosphere can be described as homely.

You must bear in mind that the leisure centre is developing after being disregarded and neglected by the previous 'managerial occupants'. The gym is slightly archaic but over time with TLC, public membership and a good following, we will see the growth of an even better sports hub. 

I want to applaud the community leisure centre for its amazing volunteers, community spirit and excellent service so far.
