Stirling Castle is a great symbol of Scottish independence & a source of national pride. Visitors can now step back into the sumptuous world of Stirling Castle’s royal court. Our £12 million project has returned the six apartments in the castle’s Renaissance palace to how they may have looked in the mid-16th century.

#join historic Scotland first! Excellent guided tour for about an hour. Then wander around and look at the sights! Beautiful gardens and lots of history. Excellent family destination. Allow 2.5 hours for thorough explorationVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Breathtakingly beautiful Castle with exquisite views from a multitude of vantage points. Walk through almost every inch of this Castle, and receive a full history lesson on all that happened there. Actors are inside the main halls and queens chambers, giving full in character stories of the Queens business matters. Very educational and fun as well. Highly recommend
One of our favorite castles to have visited. You could almost feel yourself walking inside as you walk from courtyard to courtyard. The exhibits had a very good traffic flow. The guided tour was organized, clear and on topic. All of the buildings were clean and accessible. Truly world the stop.
This is one of the most famous and historically significant castles in Scotland, and it deserves a visit. In terms of sheer architectural beauty or aesthetic appeal, it does not significantly differ from the hundreds of other castles that saturate the Scottish landscape. Tourists completely overrun it, particularly in summer. Informative tours provide helpful guides to that labyrinthine and extensive, though note that the tour groups may be larger than most tourists would prefer. The Ladies Balcony, where the great ladies of the court would overlook the luscious green realm, stirs the spirit and creates the feeling of being in an ancient fairy tale or chivalric romance, particularly with the view of the elaborate Wallace monument to the north. Otherwise, the castle is beautiful, but overwhelmingly so in comparison to the other castles in Scotland, and the mobs of tourists can be rather overwhelming.
Right when you get to the front gate, you’ll be met by the friendly, knowledgeable greeters - Sam was incredibly welcoming and does an amazing job making a first impression for the castle! The exhibits are tremendous as they are thorough. A must for any history buffs visiting!
Take a quick train ride out of Waverly station for the most beautiful views! Prepare to climb steep steps and streets to get to the castle from the station, or consider a cab up to it! Once you are inside, it is everything you imagine when you think of a castle to be! The gardens are incredible, the views are breathtaking! A must see!!!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
A castle dating back to the 1100s. An interesting look at Scottish history monarchy, wars, architecture. Many of the rooms in the palace had guides in period dress ready to explain history, features, etc. Has numerous interactive exhibits. Strongly recommend a guided tour to maximize the experience. You can easily spend 3 hours here and not cover it all.
It was overall an amazing experience. The Castle is well maintained. Ample of parking is available. There are two cafes inside. One would need around 4 hours to cover the Castle. Admission is with tickets. Purchase the tickets in advance to avoid last minute rush.
One of the coolest castles I’ve ever been. You get to walk around this ancient castle that has so much history and unicorns! You’ll family will definitely enjoy it!
We visited the castle for Unicorn Day and it did not disappoint! We started with a guided tour, which was about an hour. Our guide, Tricia, did an amazing job of leading us through the castle’s history and making the past feel more real. We spent some time after the tour looking through some of the other spaces. The setup in the historic kitchen is very nice. As for the unicorns, they were adorable! I couldn’t ride on, for good reason, but we could get fairly close. All of the kids there were so excited. It was fun watching their faces light up. Wished we could’ve stayed longer.
