Visually the outside air vent could do with a good clean. The glass on the door internally needed a clean. This was at 11.45 before opening, the floor had not been swept under the tables very well. The toilet to the rear on the right hand side needed a good clean. Especially as they had only just opened I was surprised as I would have expected more. The food was a tad disappointing with the batter not living up to expectations as on reviewing other people's photos, it looks crispy sadly this was not the case for me.
Not a great lover of Fish & Chips but had to make a visit while in Cornwall and I am so glad I did. Just an ordinary establishment not fancy but welcoming. Staff very helpful with food choices available. I was worried about fish bones but reassured that if I did find any they would be happy to provide another order. I ordered the Lemon Sole Grilled with chips, amazing! Lemon sole:flakey but yet melted in the mouth, so succulent and plenty of it. Chips were light and crispy the potato inside as soft as pillows. My partner had the battered Cod, best he had ever tasted and he has battered Cod most Fridays. I must tell you about the Lemon piece that came with our meals. I squeezed this over my Lemon sole, the aroma was so delightful that I had to taste it. OMG it was so lemony but without the bitterness, never tasted a Lemon so sweet in my life. Amazing food. Thank you Rick Stein and staff for an amazing experience.
We always come here when we’re in Padstow, but I’ve never managed to leave a review before. We waited for a table this time; I wouldn’t queue for this in high season. The service was very good. The operation is well-oiled. The cod and chips were very good. The homemade tartare sauce was delicious. The children’s portions were far too big for small children, but Stein’s Fish & Chips are not alone in oversizing children’s meals.
Best ever fish and chips. Batter so crispy. Great service with a warm welcome from a lovely lady as we arrived. The staff there were all great and seemed to be happy in their work. Definitely worth a visit.
Good portions, nicely cooked and tasty. Not so expensive, roughly what you'd pay for the same in a pub. Service was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed both the meal and experience.
From a seafood "chef" this is so poor... Wife and I ordered seabass in batter, tartare sauce and chips. This came to £14.95. Fish was awful. Not solid, slimy and possibly frozen before being dunked in a beef dripping fryer. Had a taste of beef going through it, which isn't pleasant with fish. The batter was very greasy and managed to be crispy and soggy at the same time. A good talent. The fish seemed to smell overly fishy, another indication of non fresh, and at 9.95 a portion I think this is disgusting. The chips were generic chippy chips and cooked so badly they had no fluffyness or flavour. We ordered a fish and chips from a holiday park for comparison. The holiday park chips blew this gastronomic disaster out of the water. Tartare sauce was long life and somehow tasted of mustard. We weren't completely sure it was tartare but there was nothing else on the menu this could have been. Customer service was pathetic. She had a face like a battered haddock, and an attitude that stank more than the fish. It just seems like Mr Stein doesn't care about quality and it's all about money. Save time and save money easily by avoiding Padstow completely as Mr Stein has somehow opened everything there Resturant, Chip shop, cafe, some kind of tat shop, a "Rick Stein" gift shop and a cookery "school". It just stinks of pretentious monopolising which has ruined a beautiful fishing town. I used to be a Stein admirer until I visited, and this has made me question everything I looked forward to. Absolutely appalling from a celebrity "chef"
Had cod and chips with a hot chocolate. The hot chocolate and food was presented very well. The cod tasted very fresh and was very white. The chips were nice. It was very clean and the atmosphere was also very good.Food: 5/5
Had a big takeaway for here, 10 portions in total. We had a range of Battered Hake, Cod, Scampi and Sausage - which were all tasty and crispy. Chips were lovely and soft yet crispy outside. Unfortunately they forgot our curry sauce was missed of the order but the next day we let them know and they gave us a complimentary portion for lunch. The mustard Mayo is a must! Best fish and chips in Padstow. PS. Bear in mind that you get 2 sausages with the sausage and chips meals.
Rick Steins Fish abd chip restaurant in Padstow is lovely. The food is served quickly and presented well. Pretty average pricing compared to the rest of Padstow so good value for money. The fish was beautiful and flaked perfectly, and the batter was extremely light and crispy, not suturated in oil or greasy. Small sit down area, and if you have to wait, the turn around is pretty quick, or you can just get take out. Parking: Lots or carparks in and around Padstow
Fish and chips after a cycle ride from Wadebridge. What's not to like? My only observation was a slight lack of personality ironically. I suppose you want to feel the Rick Stein touch a bit more somehow but the staff we're friendly and the service was attentive. Was busy and the food was good.Food: 5/5
