A fantastic musuem with a great collection. The story telling and education is certainly well thought through, delivered in multiple ways for a wide audience. But what's better still is a visit during one of the many great events held here.nOur favourite is the Great Westen Brick Show, put on by Brickish a LEGO User Group. This fills the entire museum with incredible LEGO models that sit alongside the already impresive artefacts. Well worth a visit.
If you like Trains then it’s already obvious that you have to come here. But for everybody else, there’s a surprising amount also. There’s a lot of great stories about the different types of people that were required to build a site and build all of these locomotives.nnThere’s quite a lot of work that went into picking out the route and building the railroad itself before even they got around to building the steam engines and the cars.nnI didn’t realize that there was a large effort on marketing to drive tourism using the rails, but there’s a good explanation of all that as well. It’s all well laid out and there’s very friendly people to explain stuff. It’s a good visit.
Had about an hour to spare in the area so thought i’d pay a visit. Wish I had more time as there’s a treasure trove of stuff to discover. Really extensive immersive displays, videos and collections. I was impressed, but it was a shame to see very few other visitors on a Friday afternoon. Some of the staff on the ticket desk could perhaps be more friendly, but others were great.
I'm staying at Warner's littlecoats and looked on Google what to do in the area and came across the steam museum. I thought it's just something to do to pass time. However it was Amazing. Very interesting and also interactive and informative. I thoroughly enjoyed myself
Great museum with really good first person video accounts from people who worked there building trains.nLots of interactives suitable for a range of ages and everything really well displayed.nEasy parking in the shopping centre car park and lots of public EV charging there.nGood place to stop off if you are on route to or from the west or wales as it’s easy to divert off the motorway.
