This is a Brains pub and restaurant, so don't expect cheap soft drinks. We chose the deep fried brie wedges on the specials board for our starter; well-cooked, runny and tasty but I would have preferred a redcurrant jelly to the sweet chilli sauce. I chose the herb crusted lamb rump with crushed new potatoes and green beans - all looking a bit brown because of the gravy - I felt a few carrots would have brightened up the plate. But it was delicious - crust was herby and crusty, the meat cooked pink, not bloody, as I like it and the potatoes buttery and herby. It was not a small meal, there was plenty for a big appetite and my husband also enjoyed his sizeable chicken meal from the menu. The pub was quiet (7:30pm on a hot Sunday) with several other couples eating. The layout is great, with "nooks" and fairly private seating areas, but plenty of space at the bar. All the staff we had reason to speak to were well-spoken, cheerful, helpful and polite. Cost for two-course meal for two, with soft drinks (J2O with extra soda) just shy of £40. Expensive, but very nice.

Great, local pub which serves lovely food. Beer garden not the prettiest but it is a sun trap!

There used to be upto 15 of us who regularly went to The Star. For 10 + years it had been great. The food now is way below the standards we've always known. We'll be going elsewhere in future. Sad.
