Stopped by here last night as it looked busy with locals. WE SHOULD HAVE TURNED BACK.. I'm American and a seasoned pioneer of the Great British institution that is "the chippy", I have also been bonded to fried chicken for so long, it is marital. These were really sad chips Insipid, grainy, undercooked, lacking love. I also asked for one piece of chicken, I really miss good fried chicken in the UK and was excited to try this place.. and it was so dehydrated, it turned to dust in my mouth. What scraggly meat there was on that sad chicken bone, I peeled off and fed to my dog Pete. If you love a chippy, go to Central Cafe around the corner.
The mixed reviews didn't seem justified, our service was great, the meal hot and tasty. He had the sausage special, traditional fish and chips for me. Good experience!
If you are in Stranraer and are looking for somewhere to eat, I can recommend The Starfish, big menu and really big portions. plus the prices are good. Had haddock whale and chips and tea and bread and butter for £8. Nearly had mince and tatties, think I saw curries too. Opposite Tesco.
I've eaten here 3 times now. The food is good and hot. The waitress on each occasion has been very helpful, friendly and polite. I have tried a few things from their menu and it's all really tasty. If you visit Stranraer, pop in for a choice filled menu and meet the lovely staff.Food: 5/5
Lovely dinner : everyone enjoyed their food. I bought the kids chicken nuggets and chips since I wasn’t hungry but I finished most of it anyways because it was a decent meal. £24 in total for four people, the price is reasonable for what we bought.
Got a takeaway tonight. The chips were reheated more than once. The batter on the sausages was thin and one was a strange grey colour. We waited so long whilst the man serving took a phone call there were three other staff hanging about , when he added an extra £4 on at the till we just wanted to get out of there as quick as possible. Just won't be back.
Good portions and competitive price. Chips were hot and tasty, fish was fresh and tasted nice but batter was poor and greasy gave me heartburn. Pleasant staffFood: 3/5
Best fish and chips have had for a while. Service was quick and friendly just the way we like it. Reasonable priced we had pensioner deal. Nice atmosphere here and will visit again next time we are visiting the town.
Had a lovely meal here for a family of 7 today. All meals were made fresh and they were tasty. Would recommend if your in the area.
Probably one of the worst chippy I have ever had. I ended up binning it. Battered pizza was greasy, doughy and tasted awful. The chips were undercooked and peely wally.i don't know what kind of fat they are using but it left a horrible aftertaste. 3 of us bought food and 3 of us dumped it.
