Perfect for a traditional treat. When I want a quick drink and cake I bypass all the national chains and head here. Drinks, both hot and cold, are the standard fare though the pot of tea is always my choice as it makes two good cups. They're not stingy with the milk either. However, the cake selection is varied and always a little different from other places. I usually find something I've not had before. For one small family celebration, we ordered in advance: cream tea and sandwiches for five people. Generous portions, presented beautifully. We just about managed it all. Prices are about right for a city centre café but nothing can match the interior decor and the general vibe of the place. The old pew seating might look comfortable but always numbs my nether regions after a while. YMMV. Call ahead, if you can, as it can get crowded, especially in Summer.
The Monk's Kitchen Cafe is found in Gloucester Cathedral. It is open from 10.00am. It had a small flight of stairs going down to it. There is a wheelchair lift. Once in the cafe the chairs and tables are quite close together. There are three sections to the cafe. The food is reasonably priced.Food: 4/5
Brilliant food , your orders freshly made so having to wait a while is well worth it. Service is very good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Vegetarian options: Plenty of variety Kid-friendliness: Cater for young children Parking: Parked in the city car park Dietary restrictions: Caters for gluten and egg free diets.
Have to say I was disappointed today. Had soup, charged more than displayed price. Small portion and could have been hotter. Asked for white bread got brown and only one butter portion. Ambience spoiled by noisy uncontrolled young children. No attempt by parents to tell them how to behave in such an environment. As a long standing FOGC I expected better and better value
They have gluten free options!! There were 6 different gluten free homemade cakes to choose from, which made me feel like a normal person who can actually CHOOSE what to eat, rather than a sad celiac who usually just has the option of a packaged gf brownie. The gf Victoria sponge was amazing, the best I've had since my diagnosis. They have separate tongs for picking up gluten free cake, though the server almost forgot to use them and needed reminding, I think he was just in a rush. This shows a pretty good awareness of allergies, so I have hope that their kitchen practices are good too. Overall, delicious cake for a bargain price in a gorgeous location- what's not to love?
The wait for the food and drink is worth it as we were served with awesomely delicious sandwich and orange cake. My hot chocolate was out of the world. Thank you Vegetarian options: There were some options available and I gather that they do taste great.
The Monks Kitchen is a brilliant place to grab a light meal or snacks. The staff a very friendly and efficient. You can have a coffee or tea without having to visit the Cathedral, although it is impossible not to as it is so wonderful.Food: 5/5
The food is very good with a range of gluten free and vegan options and take away. The disabled lift access was not working but there is an outside ground floor easy entrance so, no worries!Food: 5/5
