Excellent to have the church open during the day. This is a large church in a small community. Small amount of parking nearby. Tall three stage 15th century tower visible as you drive into Sithney. Churchwarden most helpful. There is a church trail leaflet that highlights a number of interesting items, well worth a look.
Hi allnThis is the family church my ancestors would worship in back before they came to Australia early 1800'S It was a great feeling for my self and to show my wife where we came from. This is the most beautiful place we have visited in Cornwall, seeing some of my ancestors graves gave me a real buzz. My mother always wanted to come here but she passed, I wrote her name in the visitor's book which I'm sure she would have thanked me for it.nGreat little country town
Very cool old churchyard, but not well kept at all. We were trying to find our ancestor’s gravestones from the 1800s, but it was huge, no organization, and very overgrown. There were times I sunk to mid-calf because I couldn’t tell where the ground was with everything that had grown over the graves. It is also incredibly hard to read a large number of headstones, which of course is no ones fault weather and age are unavoidable. We also were told that is it tougher to find headstones the further back you go, and also that many families did not even have enough money to purchase grave markers. There also was a sign posted that said bodies had been found beneath the church, which of course would not have headstones that could be read.nnThat said, it was very cool looking at a little glimpse of Sithney Parish history, and was still a profound experience to be there. I would recommend it, but don’t expect to find anyone in particular.
Beautiful church. Unfortunately we couldn't go inside but I would go again when the current restrictions are lifted.
