Very cool old churchyard, but not well kept at all. We were trying to find our ancestor’s gravestones from the 1800s, but it was huge, no organization, and very overgrown. There were times I sunk to mid-calf because I couldn’t tell where the ground was with everything that had grown over the graves. It is also incredibly hard to read a large number of headstones, which of course is no ones fault weather and age are unavoidable. We also were told that is it tougher to find headstones the further back you go, and also that many families did not even have enough money to purchase grave markers. There also was a sign posted that said bodies had been found beneath the church, which of course would not have headstones that could be read. That said, it was very cool looking at a little glimpse of Sithney Parish history, and was still a profound experience to be there. I would recommend it, but don’t expect to find anyone in particular.
Beautiful church. Unfortunately we couldn't go inside but I would go again when the current restrictions are lifted.
