St Michael the Archangel Church was only one of six built in the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1 and the only one in Essex.Research indicates that this is the first Church of England church in the world. This red-brick church was built in 1563 but has recently been updated by regrading the pathways, adding toilets and a kitchen. The website says it is open to visitors during daylight hours.
