St. Mary's is a traditional style, rural Essex church, setback from the village green, nearby the duckpond. The stone building with tower is very well proportioned, with an extension added at the rear. The interior feels very light & spacious with mostly clear glass windows. St. Mary's well kept churchyard feels very secluded, surrounded by trees & arable fields.
I am totally blessed to have attended this church.I can mentally transport myself back in time, just from seeing a picture.nI so looked forward to Sunday mornings attending this church.nAfter dusk, it had an ethereal air.nOnly now do I appreciate having spent my childhood in this wonderful village.
The present building with Norman nave and chancel dates from c1130 - 1150 but there may have been an earlier building here before.nThe west tower was added in the C14th. It has a perpendicular style octagonal 14th century font.nThe church is normally open to visitors.
Someone very kind left the picture of my two very children in the entrance where I had put before I found. I will love them forever x
A great Catholic church a short walk from me
