I was a choir boy at st Mary's church 1946 unti1951 the Rev Dudley Brown was the vicar, we had quite a large congregation which came from the surrounding area,of course at that time the church was quite isolated which meant that the congregation had quite far to walk. i know the church is over 1700 yrs old and used to have a tall spire which I was told was lost in a fire but I have no proof of this.The last time I was at the church was in 1984 and the same happened church was locked and no vicar.   it is a shame that it has become necessary to lock our beautiful old monuments but I suppose in this modern age we have to put up with it or have them vandalised even during the war the church was never locked,and nothing was ever taken except maybe time to pray, i dought I will ever see the place again but I still have very fond memories.God bless all

We were very disappointed to find the church locked and the Vicar unobtainable after driving from Dorking to see the church. It is the first time this has happened in the many years we have visitedlots of churches in Simon Jenkins book of the best 1000 in England.
