St. Martins Parish Church

About

St. Martin's is the Church of England Parish Church of Brighouse.

Story

Services at St. Martin's are open to everyone. The main Sunday service is a Eucharist (Holy Communion) that starts at 10.45am. The Choir or the Music Group lead the singing. Children are encouraged to attend and meet together as a group during the first part of the service.

Mission

Attending St. Martin's provides an opportunity to spend some time in prayer and worship each week. For the regulars it becomes the anchor in a busy week and provides real refreshment and renewal. You do not have to be a committed Christian to attend - all are welcome.

Worship is based on the Eucharist (Holy Communion), from Common Worship of the Church of England, in a formal but relaxed style.

We are a friendly group of people who will make you very welcome at Services and social activities.

We had a wedding booked before COVID struck at the church to be done by Paul . We had to move the date twice to this year . everything was booked we spoke to Paul at the beginning of this year he said he would be InTouch a few months before to finalize the arrangements which was fine we didn't hear anything . So I phoned the church 2 months before the date to see what was happening with times and a rehearsal etc . When we finally got through it was to the church warden who informed us that Paul had taken 3 months off and wouldn't be back till 7 days before our wedding so I tried to get the details sorted with the warden who tried her best to help but they had the wrong time for our wedding on the books so that had to be changed . Finally Paul came back and phoned me asking why my wedding was still on his calendar . I informed him the wedding was in a week's time and he was ment to be marrying us he then asked why hadn't we called him in months very abruptly ! . I told him I had been trying to get in touch and he wasn't there . We worked it out and started the finalization of the wedding as quickly as possible . 4 days before the day I received an email at 10pm at night saying I have COVID I can't marry you but I will try find someone else to do it . I didn't hear anything back after that so I messaged him again asking what was happening and did he find someone else and were we still having a rehearsal . He said I have got two vicars to do it for you they will be InTouch which was a stroke of luck really as they were both excellent and made the who process a lot easier and they couldn't be anymore helpful . So the day went without a hitch . We hadn't made payment at this point because we didn't know who we payed and what the protocol was for this as two vicars from coley church did the service do you pay the vicars or the church etc . I received a call a day later from rev paul . Very abrupt saying you haven't made payment so I explained we didn't know who we were ment to be paying or what the protocol was . He explained I needed to make the payment to his church immediately or they wouldn't be putting the paperwork through which wasnt an issue it was the tone and the manner it was all said in . If I can anyone any advice I would say go to the Coley church and get married there the vicars are extremely helpful and are on the ball with the information and if it hadn't been for them we wouldnt have had a wedding . All in all rev paul hasn't been easy to deal with he was either on holiday for months or not there or extremely abrupt .
A wonderful accepting of all church. People are so friendly and Paul the Vicar/ Priest is such an inspiring man! Will definitely be going again. The soup for supper Sunday was delicious! Ten out of ten! Love!
