I went to the school in the mid 90s as a boarder and had a great time there. Now, St Lawrence College has a new academic deputy, who just joined from Kings Canterbury. The school is thriving: student numbers have grown to almost 650 total, several new large super modern buildings have been added over the last few years incl. a top notch hockey pitch up at the sports grounds, currently considered the best in Kent. A club house is also under construction. The girls 1st 11 are currently national champions!
I taught Year One class at this college. The class was originally 16 children but 3 more came up to my class from the Reception class.nThe children could move up to the next class when they were considered ready to do so.nThe pupils could also be placed in an older class, if they are very able or stay in their class longer, if they are not yet ready to move up. They could also be placed in a younger class, if they are not ready to join their own peer group.nEach child is treated with respect and as an individual, hence the consideration of each of their needs, according to the teachers and the parents.nClass sizes only go up to 19, once there are 20 children of the same age, they will be split into two classes of 10 each.nThey are not only taught academically but also to be good team players, be diligent and self-motivated.nThey are expected to be polite and respectful to the staff and each other at all times, on the grounds and off, when on town leave for the boarders.nThe college has a wide range of subjects from an early age, including different languages, numerous sports and music.nThe school performs many plays and musicals.nStudents may also have group or private lessons if required.nThe school takes pupils from 3 to 18 years old. There are children from the forces here, hence the army, navy and air cadets, where they learn specialised skills, such as rifle shooting and orientation on hikes and at camps.nThe pupils learn to be good citizens through The Duke of Edinburgh Awards, from bronze to gold.nThey are entered early Year 10, for some GCSEs and take more the next year, Year 11.nAS is in Year 12 and A levels in Year 13.nMost then go on to a university of their choice at 18 years old.nMy son also attended the college.
St Lawrence College is one of the best in the area, the buildings are well thought out and the staff are very well trained and put them selves out to make sure that you understand the subject being taught. Can't go wrong with this college..
so I went there during summer,at churcill house.kinda ok food, very friendly and helpfull staff, but the rooms were awfull.my room was full of dust and I had a stain on my bed that seemed to be pee,DISCUSTING,and the windows were hard to close plus my shower only had one setting,ICE FLIPPIN COLD.nnoverall the college is nice but the rooms are in terrible shape.
My son Michael seems settles well there. Staff were patient during COVID lock down. Hard time for everyone, the SL masks are nice
