I visited in November which was pretty windy that day,but it’s worth the visit it’s a very iconic building and you can see the other 2 forts “remains” across the water on Polruan side. Highly recommend it anytime of the year.
We had a really lovely walk to the castle getting slightly lost on the way but finally figuring it out. The coast path is amazingly beautiful and the castle was an interesting spot away from the crowds in town. We went on a particularly windy morning, and it felt a little unsteady in places. I’d be wary of taking kids up there if it’s not a calm day. It’s definitely high up and some of the railings feel worryingly low. But amazing views and really interesting history.
These free castle ruins are fairly small next to some other coastal ones, and have one small sign with information, but offers excellent views of Fowey Harbour. There is not parking nearby - it's about a 20 minute hilly walk from the main Fowey Car Park not difficult, but not flat, and could be muddy near the Castle when rainy.
This is an old fort rather than a castle and worth visiting for the amazing views. Look out for other castle type ruins across the other side of the estuary. There are some steps to climb so might be tricky for younger children or those with mobility issues. Information board provided to give historical background to the site. Free entry and no access restrictions.
It is on the way of south west coast path. Very windy here. Not much of a castle left here. I cannot take my bike up so had to walk up the path.
