Brilliant experience at the top of "The Stump". The stairs get pretty narrow at the top and it's a slow climb. Interesting "graffiti" on the walls spanning hundreds of years. Incredible views from all sides. Definitely not for small children. Well worth the £5.
Beautiful unassuming church. In the small town of Boston, its in the city center, right off the river, it is highly accessible inside, right up to and past the alter. Beautiful inside and mostly untouched since it was built. A very nice place to visit.
A huge, airy church with a coffee shop inside ...... lovely views while drinking hot chocolate! Interesting information boards about the church, plus a build your own tower activity. I attempted the climb up the tower, but found it too claustrophobic to continue alone.... I was so disappointed, so I will try again with company!
The church provides with space to pray, hope and reflect on everything. It is also beneficial for people who are lost or simply need a bit of guidance in life. A little prayer can make a huge difference in someone’s life and help to restore one’s faith.
Magnificent! A friendly welcome, lovely coffee, lego church and a sense of peace. Views from the tower are amazing if you can manage the steps.
Woo hoo I made it here and what a Church this is ! The Church of Saint Botolph , Boston affectionately known as the Stump is incredible . The building of the present Church is thought to have begun in 1309 but Christianity begun in Boston when the man himself Botolph or Botulph preached here and founded a Church . The name Boston itself is said to be derived from Botolphs Stone . The tower itself started in the early fifteenth century possibly by Reginald of Ely and what a sight it is even today . On the day I arrived it was a hive of activity based mainly around the cafe the staff were friendly , informative and nice . The slender pillars to the internal arches don't look strong enough to hold this place up and infact lean eastward noticeably , surely a miracle ! I loved the Reredos which I was told was actually not installed until the early twentieth century but certainly looked amazing . This is one cool Church and as already mentioned seems to be a centre of activity for the locals . The stained glass windows are beautiful the pulpit quite impressive . I loved the Byzantine style painting of Saint Botolph himself . The staff are great . This place is not only vast in size but beauty too well worth a visit .
Well worth a visit we like Churches. Very grand for a Parish Church. Most will know it as Boston Stump which is obvious why when you see it. Nice cafe too.
Lovely church cathedral and main reason for visiting boston. Very good information about the church and about how the pilgrims went to america which i found so interesting. Free to entry. The gift shop was lovely with lovely staff. We went up the tower which is a very tough climb up alot of steep narrow steps . The view was amazing as it was clear good weather , I wouldnt bother if the weather wasnt good. Cost was £5 each . Toilets are available and clean free to use. Throughly enjoyed .
This was a must to visit the stump, had a lovely walk round ,nice coffee and cake in the cafe, but best of all was the 209 steps to the top of the tower.
Wonderful place. Volunteers very polite and informative. I'm not religious at all. However, there's such a calming atmosphere in there. Very historic.
