I was in the worst place in my life when I was reffered here. Unable to really understand my own emotions or even express them, I wasn't the easiest patient but I was hoping someone was able to see me clearly because at the time I was in a lot of pain emotionally. When I first visited her I was seen by a Julie Evans. Which after a few sessions explained 'I'm not as bad as others'. Left the service during covid. Unfortunately my condition worsened. Was referred back to a woman called Tracy who was the coldest woman and obviously had bare minimum training when handling fragile patients. If you didn't do thing their way it was end of session. Last i was given a woman named Sancha who then proceeded to start my session with 'I'm not a miricle worker' thanks to these experiences, I always felt not good enough or ill enough to be on this service. The service itself needs redoing as I've met many people from this service that have sadly had the same experience as myself. Even if I was to fall again I would never step foot back in here.
I was recently admitted to St Ann's Psychiatric Hospital Daisy Ward for 3 weeks as an informal patient - I felt that my stay helped me. Most of the staff were lovely and showed compassion, understanding and care. The rooms and facilities are lovely and new. However, I am giving 4 stars rather than 5 because it was very difficult for patients to see the ward consultant, and also because I felt there was sometimes a lack of communication. But I am very thankful for the care I received at St Ann's - they are doing a fantastic job despite that they are obviously struggling with staff shortages.
I was forcibly injected with antipsychotics here b4 anything else was tried to improve my condition even though I’ve had bad reactions to even low doses of anti psychotics even! I had to be restrained by up to 4 female and male nurses to get these injections. They wrestled me to the bed, held me down and pulled my trousers and pants down before injecting me; this happened once a week for antipsychotics and sometimes daily for anxiety and if I couldn’t sleep and refused to take pills by mouth as I was already sedated and taking more pills made me feel worse now I’ve left feeling angry, scared, powerless and violated. When the injections gave me acute dystonia months later I was promptly discharged with no other ‘treatment’ for my newly diagnosed psychiatric illness. My acute dystonia reaction wasn’t believed by nurses right away who hadn’t seen anything like this before, they didn’t call an on call gp until another concerned patient had to call an ambulance as I was struggling to breathe! Rude and physically abusive doctor assaulted me in my room while several nurses stood beside him and didn’t say anything. Empty activity room one working computer and a pool table but no board games, art supplies or other therapeutical activities despite several patients being artists that would have really benefited from this. Many patients with covid cause of a over crowded tv room and dining area. New patient left to sleep on couch in tv room all day without being checked on by nurses once. Vegetarians and dietary requirements not always able to get a suitable meal even if they had ordered one as first come first served. Fruit rare and not enough for everyone. Super was self serve stale cold toast with not enough butters and hot chocolate. No therapy except music once a week. Patients allowed to vape in living room. 2 men walking around with gown with no back could see their bums and peen in one and one with same red dressing gown for months and other patients without warm enough clothes cause no one to bring them stuff but surely staff could sure they are busy but this should be essential or clothes could be donated. Impossible to escape sunflower ward at least although I know it’s meant to be like this it’s worth knowing for patients who go voluntarily you can still be sectioned if you don’t comply, not all mh patients lack insight and sometimes you know when a place is no good for you or just down right dangerous! Only allowed to leave for 10 mins at a time I was supposed to be allowed to leave 3 times a day but staff take so long to take your blood pressure, write down what your wearing and search you etc that I only ever got out once a day at the most patient in longer wasn’t allowed out and I believe she was discriminated on cause of physical disability that affected her speech and movement, it was like they didn’t want her to be seen in public and staff often ignored her/didn’t try to understand her and diagnosed her with bpd when she clearly didn’t have that. Staff were uneducated and thought I was faking a serious reaction to injections until an on call doctor was eventually called. Wouldn’t let me go to an appointment vital for my health & well-being even though this service was available on hospital grounds. Im sure there’s loads of other things that aren’t the way they should be but I can’t think of anything else right now.
My last review on the official NHS review site was deleted and replaced by a glowing one from a visitor not a patient which says it all really. Unfortunately my experience was unpleasant and I felt totally disbelieved. I won't go into further details on a public forum.
I was seen after a long wait. It was such a dreadful journey before I could speak to someone, when seen, I was encountered with understanding and respect and felt seen and validated which really encouraged me in my healing process. My therapist Emma was the best and I wish this place a long future ahead, unfortunately after reading all the reviews, it is sad that not everyone received the same treatment as me, which I can only redirect it to cuts in the NHS, and hiring people that are willing to work and not live off benefits like most brits both lifestyles are good. The receptionists were amazing, they often asked me to fill in formularies, and I will forever remember those blue sofas in the waiting hallway. It is sad not being able to stay in touch with the doctors that saw me since this is my only way of saying thank you :
How shall I put this, male HCA staff only happy to strike female patients in the face and stomach. My only guess is, that their inability to communication effectively with a person in crisis causes them to feel threatened and unable to deal with tense situation. Such immaturity has no place in a ward full of vulnerable women. Their manager was unable to control that young male who felt the need to strike me 4 times.
The audiology department of Haringey never answer in the phones as result very often my hearing aims is closed because I can’t book an appointment, they also if you are calling them the speaker will say leave your message with your details and they never call you back! Their services is awful half a star is too much for them.
I visited the Moorfields eye block at the St. Ann hospital. Eye clinic is not too big. However, service was good. The staff is very efficient and cooperative. Queue for the clinic is very long. It was able to get appointment after 3 months. There is a coffee machine inside. Thanks.
Been attending for 4 years. The service for both in and out patient are awful. All staff lie just to keep you in the loop to make them money. They have little to no understanding of illnesses, is anything at all they create them. Would not trust my well-being with these people.
Mum had her cataract surgeries there in last 2 months. The staff are wonderful and it’s quicker than going into Central London branch.
