A recent visit to St Andrews Cathedral reminded us how powerful historic places can be when they are brought to life through people.nnAs visitors to the town, without a deep knowledge of its history, we could have simply admired the ruins for their beauty alone. But thanks to Historic Environment Scotland , and especially their volunteer/team member “Mark”, the experience became something much more meaningful.nnMark’s tour transformed the site from stone and structure into stories, context, and lived history. His ability to make complex layers of the past engaging, accessible, and genuinely enjoyable is exactly what makes heritage work so impactful.nnThank you to the team, and especially to Mark, for making our visit both memorable and inspiring.
If only walls could talk, fascinating seeing piece of history still standing. Thinking years ago, the hallway was filled with people, the good along with the bad.nnPart of Scottish history and worth a visit. About 15 min walk down the Rd is the beach and Donald Trump Golf Course.nnAround the corner from the cathedral is two smaller beaches.
Beautiful cathedral ruins at the heart of st andrews, you get a real sense of history entering the grounds and cemetery.nnEntry is free and tours are thrice daily, the remaining standing tower can be entered for a small fee though this was closed for repair work while we were visiting.
Beautiful piece of history. Nice stroll along the cathedral and graveyard area.nIt’s free entry- check the guided tour times before you come. Staff were around to explain the history of the cathedral and answer your questions. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff.
Visited the ruins of St Andrews Cathedral on a Saturday morning in late October just after it opened. At that point only a few other people were around so could get some nice photos. Spent some time looking around and soaking in the history. When I was leaving it was getting busier and also looked like a couple of tour groups were also looking around. A interesting landmark to view and they do accept donations to keep the site running.
