We are a Community Interest Company (CIC)
CIC is a non profit organisation which aims to utilise social enterprise and ethical trading to help people. We aim to do this both in Swansea and overseas to move people from poverty to a life of purpose.

Established as a Community Interest Company in 2011 by a group of individuals from Parklands Church in Swansea, Poverty to Purpose undertakes to tackle poverty through the strategic donation of profits and pro-active intervention. That’s where the vision for Square Peg Coffee House comes in. Through Square Peg, we aim to provide the people of Swansea with an outstanding social space where people can meet and micro-communities can flourish, in the form of a high quality coffee house business which allows guests to easily and significantly contribute to the work of the organisation.

Why Social Enterprise?
We could have set up a charity and relied upon the repeated kindness of donations to enable us to help those caught up in the trap of poverty to find purpose for the future. We could have opened a community centre which requires on-going funding from the government in order to provide an accessible social space for the growth of vital micro-communities. But we believe that high quality businesses, run in an ethical manner, have the power to provide unique platforms for this work as well as sustainable income far in excess of what could be raised through donations. In a time when purse-strings are tight but hearts are big, allowing people to support those less fortunate than themselves through their day-to-day transactions makes a whole lot of sense. Through Square Peg Coffee House, the people of Swansea will have the incredible privilege of being able to support those affected by poverty in their City and further afield, without spending a penny more than they would normally. Of course, we hope people will still choose to donate to charities that do need their support too!
