Sovereign Credit Union was opened in 2002 under the name Cumnock & Doon Valley Credit Union and Changed to Sovereign Credit Union in 2012.

Story

A Credit Union is a not for profit organization owned by its members. It has a volunteer Board of Directors elected by membership at the AGM. A common bond such as living in an area links the members. The aim of a Credit Union is to encourage members to save & give them access to borrowing. Credit Unions are for everyone, they are all about supporting the community and serve people in a wide variety of financial circumstances.


Credit Unions aim to help you take control of your money by enabling you to save what you can, and borrow what you can afford. Credit Unions encourage members to save regularly in an accessible and easy way. Withdrawals can be made easily from your savings. However the benefit of savings is that they form the basis of eligibility for our loans. The interest rate on Loans is limited by law. All business within the Credit Union is conducted in the strictest confidence & all elected officers, staff members & volunteers sign a confidentiality agreement.
