The common is the home of the Kite and Music Festival and a great place to just hang out. Large area of grass, some ornamental gardens with on street car parking all around and two car parks. Can get very busy and the area is closed off for the Music Festival. The Kite festival is free and a great weekend of FREE entertainment. But do get there early. Restrooms: There are toilets on site. Close to Clarence Pier and D Day Car park. Dog-friendliness: Great place for a good run. But there are no barriers between the main common and souronding roads.
This is a lovely place. Attractions, Amusements, food and fun at one end of the strip. Castle, The D-Day Story and more at the other end. In the central roadside area there is a beautiful Navel memorial. Lovely well kept area. Great for picnics, playing and dog walking. Plenty of parking in the car parks or across the beach front. Head across the fort towards Portsmouth and Gunwarf Quay. It's maybe a 15-20 min walk, but it's a beautiful one. I visit Southsea quite regularly and will continue to do so in the future. My photos are of Beach Dubbin we attended Sunday 4th August.
A great place to visit. Plenty of parking, especially for blue badge holders. Close to the hovercraft landing bay, a pebble beach Lots of places to eat and drink. Large toilet block, although not the cleanest in the evening. 1 disabled toilet, RADAR key required. Fun fair for the kids, although quite expensive, especially if you have several kids. Overall, a great place for the day or a weekend.
It's a great big grassed area. Lots to do nearby, great for events. Food outlets on the coast, great views and lots of parking available.
Lovely sunny, warm day at Southsea Kite Festival today [Sat 27th July 24]. Many wonderful kites displayed over the common. Kite display teams in the area. There are plenty of food and drink choices from the many kiosks, Kite sales, specilised child clothing, young childrens sensory class tent, live music. Car parking on Seafront and on common. DDay and Pyramid Centre Car Parks also available. Use RINGO car park app, as its easier to extend your ticket and not have to take a long trip back to the car each time. Allow 6hrs to have a nice day and relax in the sunshine and stroll along the Seafront. Beware, car parks empty and long queues after 4pm... Dog-friendliness: Great for dogs, plenty of open ground. Take plenty of water for your pets. Picnic area: Picnic areas on common, within boundary and outside....beware: No BBQ s on grass permitted.
International Kite Festival. Great day out. Should have opened the overflow carparking earlier. Overall, it was very well organised.
Great place to visit :- we went down for the day to the Portsmouth International Kite Festival, had a fantastic day :-
I had a great afternoon exploring Southsea Common and the area around the seafront a few days before Christmas 2023. I will definitely be back in the summer to visit the museum' and other attractions . Photographing the hovercraft made a slightly rainy day a fun day. The naval memorial is haunting and very thought provoking. I have been in war and visiting war memorials takes me back to a dark place sometimes but I am really glad I visited.
Great place to celebrate Pompey's promotion to Championship!!! Great to be amongst fans for the occasion. Woohoo!!!
Southsea is a great place for a walk or run it has numerous places to get whatever takes you're fancy, weather it be an ice cream, fish and chips, a pizza or a nice meal with someone special, it has it all and the views are spectacular across the water and you'll enjoy your visit. There are plenty of toilet facilities, play areas for the children to let off some steam and lots of places to sit to take a load off for those who are not so agile. It's also Dog friendly as well as other pets like Husbands!!! Ha ha, I just know you won't want to leave it's fantastic.
