My 90-year-old mum recently spent a few days at Southerndown Care home in order to be able to attend her granddaughter's wedding. She was a little nervous about coming but was soon put at ease by the caring and compassionate staff, who did everything to make sure that the stay went smoothly. Her medication was handled extremely efficiently and we were also impressed by the quality of the food. The whole stay went very smoothly and as well as attending the wedding, mum felt that she had had a little holiday. Thank you Rosalynn and the team at Southerndown for making this possible.
It has taken quite a while for me to write this review. My Mum became a full-time resident from 01/03/21 due to the progression of her dementia. My Mum passed away on 02/01/23 a truly awful time, as we do not live in England. However, the care provided to my Mum was exceptional and a great comfort to us. Daily updates, whether good or bad, were provided. The kindness of the staff caring for Mum was above and beyond what we expected and we would like to share this publicly - I am sure the members of staff who provided care for my Mum in her final hours know how much this meant to us. Thank you.
Our mother was very well looked after during her 7 years stay at Southerndown Care Home. The staff were all very kind and considerate. She lived until she was 97, a result of the care she received!
Mum has been here for 5 months now and staff have proven to be incredibly warm and caring. When I asked her to describe Southerndown she responded 'Friendly'. She is as content and settled as she can be in her circumstances
My Mum was placed here as her dementia deteriorated very quickly after my brother's death and she could no longer be cared for by my father who was 90. I didn't know a lot about dementia before this point as my Mum was only diagnosed a few months before she moved here. However, the team and manager were so helpful, answering all of my questions and helping my Mum settle in. I truly admire the staff and the job they do at Southerndown. They are always patient, happy, and engaging with people in their care. My Mum seemed to know everyone in Memory Lane very quickly and when I came to visit, they were always happy to chat and I could just tell my Mum was happy in what could have been a very stressful time sadly my Dad passed away while she was here. The facilities are of high standard and Mum always speaks very positively about the food especially the cake!. Huge thank you to everyone at Southerdown for supporting me and Mum during her stay.
As a family the decision to move both parents to a care home was a difficult one to make, but once that decision had been made the choice of which home was easy. We chose Southerndown not just because I had worked there for 14 years and therefor had first-hand knowledge on how well they would be cared for, but I knew they would be looked after by a skilled team who would treat them with respect and dignity whilst laughing and exchanging friendly banter with them, everybody from housekeeping to management get involved. We also chose Southerndown because it’s not a new hotel style care home which they would have felt out of place in, it is a care home which has been ‘broken in’ over the years, it has a clean, warm lived-in feel, it’s a place where they can feel at home, safe and comfortable. They have been there now for over 6 months and they are thriving, they have gained weight and look so much better.
We couldn't have asked for better care for my Mother in Law. Someone would call if there were any issues. They sorted any allowances that she was due, sat with her when the hearing or eye people attended her. Staff are lovely and know all their residents. If we called for whatever reason there was always someone that we could talk to. Nothing was too much trouble. My Mother in Law died recently at the age of 92 and we know that she was so well looked after over the last two years and would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who cared for her.
I have worked as a chiropodist at Southerndown for over 20 years and have seen many changes over the years, all positive. I have also worked in many other care homes and, without question Southerndown comes top of my list for many reasons. I have witnessed first hand how tirelessly the staff work to make the residents feel genuinely valued and cared for, showing tolerance and giving their best attention at all times. Southerndown has evolved and expanded over the years to suit the residents needs and requirements, the result of this is a care home of considerable comfort to create a 'home from home' environment. The atmosphere is one of cheerfulness and positiveness from the staff towards the residents at all times and it is good to see that activities are on offer most days should the residents wish to participate. In my experience, the rooms, en -suites and communal areas are kept spotlessly clean and monitered regularly. I personally, through my many years of working here would not hesitate to recommend Southerndown as a care home for relatives or friends, in the reassuring knowledge that they would be valued as individuals, and treated with the utmost respect and care by the staff.
My grandma is a resident here and we are all impressed with the high level of care and compassion shown. The staff are excellent and always happy to help. After having a bad experience at her previous home it is so reassuring to know she is cared for properly. We can’t thank the staff enough for all that they do. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for care for their relative. The manager is always available and helpful should you need anything.
My mother in law was treated with kindness, respect and affection throughout her stay. All the staff were friendly and approchable, the nurses always had time to explain what was happening to my mother in law's health, which helped me to come to terms with her dementia. I would thorougly reccomend this care home.
