I had a great experience at Southampton Central Railway Station. The station is very clean and well-maintained, making it comfortable for travelers. Accessibility is also top-notch, with clear signs and helpful staff. The facilities, including waiting areas and restrooms, are well-equipped and easily accessible. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and I’d definitely recommend it to other travelers!
Well, where do I start... This is honestly one of the worst railway stations I’ve ever been to. Smokers constantly ignore the rules and smoke in prohibited areas. Trains are constantly delayed or cancelled. Some staff members appear completely disengaged—falling asleep, zoning out, chatting with mates, or glued to their personal phones instead of doing their jobs.nnThe toilets are absolutely disgusting You're forced to use unisex toilets, which I find deeply uncomfortable as a woman. There are these fancy sinks that resemble urinals and have lights. Based on what I witnessed, I’m convinced many men are using them as urinals . The floors are soaked with urine, sanitary bins are overflowing, and it’s clear the toilets aren’t being cleaned regularly—if at all.
Here is some useful information re this venue, if you are alighting for a cruise here there is no direct bus services to the cruise liner embarkation, its a longish walk dragging cases, especially in the rain, Southampton is usually almost gridlocked and the police are pro active re hazard light stroke pulling in bus area, there are however the most helpful crowd management hi vis people on this site, do give yourself adequate time as hundreds alighting from a train all going the same place is somewhat challenging and chaotic.
If you want my honest opinion, I wouldn't recommend Southampton central train station to a lot of people.nAlthough they have the quantity, they partially fail in the quality sector of their service.nPlace needs cleaning every so often.nBathrooms are in a state that can't be put into wordsnThe only thing good about this railway station is probably the train.
We were tourists and our cruise ended in Southampton. We wanted to go to London and decided to take the train. Through the website, we saw the prices and thought it was reasonable to go for £25. Our surprise when we got there was that the trip actually cost three times more.nnWhy does this happen? Basically, there are two train companies: one offers a direct ticket to London, and the other offers a trip that goes through Three Bridges, takes an hour longer, and matches the price shown on the website. If you’re not familiar with how the train system works and you happen to arrive at a station where only the company offering direct trips operates, they won’t explain anything to you. Even if you have a C1 level in English, they’ll pretend not to understand you and will only offer their option.nnI don’t understand how this kind of situation can happen at a station where multiple companies operate. It feels like they take advantage of tourists who don’t know how the train system works and might not feel confident enough to research further because they don’t speak the local language.nnWhen we refused to buy the tickets the staff were offering, the interaction became quite uncomfortable. I can understand it might have been because they were having a bad day or maybe it was simply a cultural misunderstanding. Still, I expected a bit more understanding from the station staff.
