John and Matt are great tutors. They made learning to fly as thrilling as it should be. They have patients when needed and encouragement likewise. The process is graduated and will allow you to develop confidence before you fly high. With this school you enter the door to freedom in 3 dimensions in way that only a small minority will ever be privileged to experience and they will help you in every way they can. I did the "Elementary Pilot" and "Club Pilot" hang-gliding courses here in Spring 2014; with John, Matt and Ozzie as my instructors. I was completely happy with all aspects of the training. It was immensely fun and there was an encouraging and supportive atmosphere on the hill; but always with a sense of safety first. Since doing the courses I've been on their autumn trips to Spain three times. Apart from being a wonderful way to experience mountain flying with a level of supervision, it's also a great way to have your technique looked over and stop any bad habits that could've crept in during the year. One special point to mention is every day I turned up for training, I flew. They have a good selection of sites for different wind directions and a deep understanding of the local weather. There are no guarantees when it comes to weather forecasting but they really do make every effort to ensure you only turn up if it's looking good.

I did the tow to hill conversion training with John, Matt and Rod last October and my wife is currently doing her hill CP with them. I found all to be excellent instructors. Their instructions were always patient, encouraging, clear and constructive. They obviously love hang gliding and are very experienced. I've seem them on the hill many times since qualifying, either training students or flying themselves. I've also met many of their graduates who also speak highly of the school. A few things that I found particularly helpful in addition to the training were: 1. John does a weather check the night before training so you know the day before, if the training will be on or not 2. The training day normally starts around 10:00, which meant for me that I didn't have to be up ridiculously early to get there on time 3. The training is well priced So in summary, friendly and excellent instruction at a fair price. Highly recommended. PS hang gliding is awesome and if you're thinking of trying it you really should and this school is a great place to start your hang gliding experience

From the moment I arrived John and Matt put me at ease. They are extremely knowledgeable and amiable and I always felt I was in very safe hands with them. This creates a really positive learning environment and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with South Downs Hang Gliding. I have subsequently attended 2 flying holidays to Spain and another to Lanzarote with them through which I have made some great friends. Having enjoyed my time at the school so much I try to head down to help out when time allows - it is a real treat seeing students getting into the air for the first time and catching up with the wise ones!

If you want to learn to fly hang gliders in the UK this is the only place to go. Is it worth it? YES! It will change your life.
