Story

The Tsolakides family has occupied the site since February 1967
firstly as the "Parthenon Cafe" and then , in 1982 , converted it to "Charlies Kebab House"

"Charlies " quickly gained a fantastic reputation for the quality of its home-made kebabs , and this was supplemented in 1989 with the addition of fish and chips , re-fitting the premises into its current guise of "Sophies Choice ".

In 2007 the business gained the much coveted Seafish Quality Award , which recognises not only the excellence of the food but all aspects of health/hygiene and customer service.



In June 2006 Sophies expanded by acquiring "Pino Pizza " , an under-performing site opposite its premises.Utilising all their experience and good reputation gained over 40 years in the locality , they have improved the quality of the customer service and more importantly the food , while at the same time incorporated the delivery service to include Sophies Choice.

The people here are lovely. I didn't eat on this occasion, however, the person I went with did and said the chips from here are very tasty and possibly their new favourite! The kebab was also said to be very nice. Can't comment this time on gluten free options sorry.Food: 5/5
I had heard good things about this fish and chip shop so wanted to give a go! Myself and my partner went around 7.30 and there was one person eating in and just us ordering. The lady taking our order was more interested in arguing with another customer saying that his order was right and saying that the customer was wrong . She had a right attitude and was chewing gum and rolling her eyes and wasn’t taking any notice to us at all. Once it came to serving up she asked me 3 times if I wanted salt and vinegar and I said just salt on everything and she continued to put vinegar on everything and then looked at me and said “I’ve just put vinegar on them whoops, it will be ok though won’t it” I just didn’t want the confrontation I had just witnessed with the other customer. Then she put a normal sausage on my partners order when he asked for a battered sausage and then argued with me saying “ I think I know what I heard” “battered sausages take 7 minutes” and the man who cooks the food looked really angry and told the ladies who were taking orders they needed to pay more attention. I knew she wasn’t listening to me and we knew what we had ordered I wasn’t impressed at all and won’t be going back here.
Paid almost £14.00 for fish and chips and saveloy and chips. The fish was dry and looked liked it had been cooked 5 hours ago chips were not great but edible unlike the fish. Can’t comment on the saveloy as I didn’t try it. Never againFood: 1/5
Fish lovely but chips are a real disappointment with an almost cardboard like composition. Curry sauce was good as was the service. Good to have a chippy who opens on Sundays and is well located.Food: 2/5
I've been coming to sophies for years, and the service I got was terrible, I ordered a large doner kebab and a cone of chips and a mini fish and a cone of chips, and I got mini fish and chips and a salad kebab cone of chips, I complained and he said it was my mistake, I will never go back to sophies again.Food: 1/5

Food was average well over priced £10.07 for large mixed kebab meat and chips shocking wasn't even alot there .overall food wasn't bad but for that much not worth it we are not in London sort your prices out .Food: 1/5
Used to love Sophies for the fresh white flaky cod. Very disappointing as its gone downhill massively, the fish is grey, slimy, greasy and tastes awful like it was off before frying. The chips were the same, soggy and vile. The kebab was cold. Actually feel bad writing a bad review as ive been coming to Sophies for years. But this has been the case the last few times. Costs double but half the quality. Cost £16 for 2 meals and still have to cook
Always great Chips the best around and fantastic service. They made an error with my halloumi burger and the young lady chased me out the shop to correct it and then brought it back to my vehicle. Great service Thank you guysFood: 5/5
