Busy pub/hotel in a quaint village where all the front doors of the houses are a particular shade of green, by order it would seem. I happened to get here on carvery night and was treated to an excellent meal, with the unusual treat of being able to have different meats ham and beef in my case together. Loads of veg and the biggest Yorkshire puds I've ever seen. Certainly worth a visit if you are in this lovely neck of the woods..
Nice venue. Fabulous village in Northamptonshire..on the boarder of Rutland. Sondes definition- an instrument probe that automatically transmits information about its surroundings from an inaccessible location, such as underground or underwater… I had to do a google lol. Dog friendly in the bar. Absolutely indulgent, fabulous carvery, everything is homemade. It really is one of the best I’ve ever tried. Fantastic afternoon tea’s to be had. Really nice starters and amazing desserts. Such a pretty place to sit and eat gorgeous food. Unfortunately the service isn’t very good. Such a shame. Not attentive. Not that bothered. But. The place was mobbed. And they done well to keep us all happy. So fair play to the staff. Lacking management. Or training. In the kindest criticism way. Parking is at the rear… it’s on the left before the pub, if you travel down hill. Disability parking at the rear. And a slope. Clean toilets. Rockingham castle is on the top of the hill. Another stunning place to visit. Dog friendly gardens. #Walkswithbuddy #Buddyfriendlypubs
We highly recommend the igloo experience! It was a lovely setting for this festive period and with the added benefit that the food was lovely. The starter was served to our igloo and we chose the carvery for our mains which was just over the courtyard to the main building. I can't recommend enough!
Really good atmosphere, good food and good portions via the carvery! Friendly staff and lovely decor throughout for Xmas.
Sondes Arms was clean, friendly and tasty. I went here for a team meal on a Wednesday night. It wasn’t too packed but just busy enough to feel a lively atmosphere. Despite this I must give four stars. The reason for this is because the staff felt all over the place and no where at the same time. Food arrived promptly but when we needed top ups of drinks or the bill it took ages. Far too long, at the point where it became frustrating. Especially when we wanted the bill so we could go home. I will be returning because the staff were friendly, welcoming and professional and I will be considering this as a hiccup on their part.
Afternoon tea was nothing to write home about! Simply put if you want afternoon tea go to a tea room not a pub. The quality of the food was not high, sandwich fillings where good but bread was only suitable for toasting. Scones had been warmed or microwaved to freshen them up, cream had been whipped so as it had become a crumble so was difficult to spread over the scones and the strawberry jam was a nothing special. 4 half strawberries where provided which tasted good for this time of the year March. Finally the cakes, chocolate, red velvet & Victoria sponge where not home made and very mundane. We where the only couple having an afternoon tea which is served between 1200-1400 hardly afternoon, everyone else was enjoying the pub food which all looked very good. My advise don't go to a pub for afternoon tea go to a proper tea room where they specialize in getting it right!
Our experience was very enjoyable. The restaurant was serving a Christmas menu. I had a roast, and my partner had salmon. Our meals were well prepared and very tasty. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was comfortable and well presented. Overall, we both had a lovely evening. Prices for food and drink were reasonable.
I had the roasted vegetable curry but failed to find anything roasted just aldente broccoli, cauliflower, sugar snap peas and a bland sauce. Side salad looked as though it had been doing the rounds all day. Staff were nice enough
Where do I start? We were met by very friendly staff, seated in a beautiful dining roomto be fair all of the building interior is stunning. We went for the carvery for our lunch and it was delicious, the meat and veg was cooked to perfection,at £12.95 per person it was great value as well. Our new favourite place for Sunday lunch. Thanks Sonde. John and Michelle.
I've been here twice, both times for Christmas afternoon tea. Both times it was amazing. We are going to go back for a normal meal at some point. It's a really cosy country pub. The staff are helpful and the service was good. We had so much food we had to take some home. :
