We booked a last minute dinner on a Thursday evening for 4 people and on arrival was greeted by a very polite young gentleman who was front of house and also our waiter for the evening. His professional manner throughout our meal along with the quaint setting and delicious food did not disappoint. The atmosphere was very relaxed and as the dining room got busier it remained a pleasant and enjoyable meal. We live a few miles away and would never have passed this beautiful place randomly but will definitely be returning with some friends for another pleasant evening with good food and wine.
We've visited twice in the last week. A great, historic family pub. It's a lovely old building, set in the countryside with a large beer garden. If you can, try to sit outside as the garden is great. It is large, with plenty of tables. There are chicken coops, a trampoline, bouncy castle, a large patio with kids bikes, swings, slides and even a football goal. Sat outside in the sun, curious brew, with the kids fully occupied. Nice.
I visited The Snail twice last weekend, once on Saturday and once on Sunday. I went on Saturday evening for a meal, which was the first time I'd eaten there and it may sound silly but I honestly had the best Chicken burger I've ever had - the chicken breast was bigger than the bun which never happens, and the salad which filled it was chopped finely enough to fill the burger without it all falling out! The flavor was lovely and the chips which came with were great too! I then visited the Sevenoaks Motorcycle show on Sunday and had a fantastic day - I'd really recommend people watch out for next years event as this is not one to miss. From the bikes, to entertainment and once again, amazing food in the form of a BBQ, this event was well planned and executed to perfection. Would absolutely recommend The Snail for a special event or just as an excuse to treat yourself to a nice meal out!
Hair in food, deep fried chips that were still raw instead, steak from the freezer. My girlfriend and I were both sick afterwards. Food and service could only be rated as poor at best. I simply can't believe where the other positive reviews came from. Michelin-standard? Really!?!? Smell fishy to me.
Nothing particularly wrong with this, but nothing special either which left us disappointed as we had heard great things about it. They evidently don't go for fresh seasonal produce as an ethos as we had asparagus in November... some of the veg was overcooked and the venison we had a bit dry. Not horrible, it was nice but not a superb meal. It's also pricey for what it is.
I agree with AndyL. Not bad but a lot of money for what it was. I had the baked Camembert starter and it was not melted which is a bit of a cockup as it only involves the basics of cooking, ie applying heat. However the bread was good and were the olives for the extras. The rest was ok but considering other pubs at equal price they are not quite there. Need to be less money or better food.
Not able to give any change from a £10 note for a £9.13 round as they had no change - at 1.00pm on a Bank Holiday Monday. No crisps on a Bank Holiday Monday. No nuts on a Bank Holiday Monday. After having been told there was nothing they could do, I told them to write me an iou for the 87p and left with my family and went to another local eatery - the White Rock at Underriver which was a 5 minute drive and faultless in every way with friendly staff who also looked old enough to drink what they were serving as opposed to the clueless young 'man' left behind the bar at The Snail. I asked some of my other friends who were eating there what the food was like and they were unanimous in being underwhelmed... It was not my choice to go to the Snail in the first place and will not be going back. If you want somewhere nice and friendly who know how to run a pub / restaurant, I can wholeheartedly recommend the White Rock at Underriver or The Bucks Head at Godden Green, both are an easy 5 minute drive from the Snail...
Was practically empty with no atmosphere at all. Felt extremely dirty with horrible sticky tables. Would not recommend at all, avoid at all cost and go to The Padwell Arms down the road instead!
Food cooked perfectly. Very professional service in a nice atmosphere. Will definitely be visiting again soon!
Interesting food, several fish dishes, very relaxed service, pleasant ambience and had two real ales on tap! Getting pricey, but some of the desserts are to die for!
