We went for a friend's birthday and I wasn't sure if I was going to like any of the food as I'm quite picky. I went for the Black Pudding Bon Bons as a starter, they were amazing! For main I had steak with chips which was probably the best steak I've ever had. Unfortunately I was far too full for dessert so can't comment on that, but staff were very friendly and attentive.
The Sunday roast was delicious, this has a choice of any two of the three available meats for £11.95 or all three can be chosen for only £2 extra I chose the silverside of beef and the lamb, both were delicious and so tender they were falling apart, the lamb in particular tasted amazing and the accompanying veg, roast potatoes and gravy were of the same high quality. The third meat available which I didn't have was chicken, everybody who had it in our party said it was good. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the food, and service is attentive and polite. Not our first visit and definitely not our last.
Nice food, some good concepts, but can occasionally be a little under seasoned. However, staff are very knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients for those of us that need to avoid certain foods, they are also happy to accommodate picky eat such as my autistic son with off menu items where possible.
We've been eating at Smiths for many years and it never ceases to amaze us, the standard of food and service is excellent. Never rushed but always top quality. Keep up the good work Dave!
Without question, the best restaurant in Salford. A reasonably-priced, reassuringly short menu but with something for everyone in a comfortable, if slightly dimly-lit, dining room. Not so much a well-kept secret anymore but its use of its space for community events and even plays is pretty impressive.
Now this is a proper restaurant with top notch food, in a different league to a pub-restaurant, so I don't mind paying a bit more. Really good service, nice decor and they even have theatrical performances going on quite regularly. Free parking after 6 round the back and it's right next to the train station if you're a fan of public transport. There are a few tables outside so you can dine al fresco when the sun's out, like a slice of continental Europe right here in Eccles!
Excellent food, well prepared and flavourful. I'm picky and the awesome staff accommodated all my quirks. Brilliant service!
Great restaurant in the heart of eccles. Good food at really affordable prices. Staff really friendly
I've been fortunate enough to visit Smiths as a diner & audience-member, and as Director of one of the shows. On each occasion, I was blown away not only by the hospitality and quality of the food; but also by the dedication to artistic quality. A venue that punches way, way, WAY above its weight, in all respects!
The building here is picturesque siting in the middle between two massive concrete buildings. A true triumph for warmth of service They have a well-priced set menu £16.95 for three courses so I decided to go with that, and my companion chose off the impressive specials board. First up for me was courgette and sweet corn fritters with an olive salsa – The fritters were a tad overdone and a slightly lacking in any flavour, and instead of being helped out by the olives, they were overwhelmed. Pleasant enough, but not a tantalising curtain-raiser. My companion went for the scallops, which were sat on succulent pork and fennel patties with a cauliflower puree. This was more like it. Scallops done to the right side of juicy and the patties could have justified a menu billing on their own.No wine, thanks to the inclusion of Fursty Ferret on the menu, a crisp, nutty ale that I was expecting to sit nicely with my lamb ‘osso bucco’. Normally cooked with veal, I was expecting the osso bucco’s meat broth to be rich and creamy. It wasn’t. The lamb was beautifully tender and fell off the chunks of bone with ease. Accompanied by broccoli, new potatoes and a creditable mashed carrot and swede, My dining partner went with the fillet steak, which was ordered medium, and arrived almost well done. Redemption was close at hand. Our apologetic waiter took it away and arrived five minutes later with one which was bigger, cooked to juicy pink perfection and accompanied by some free chunky chips and a punchy black peppercorn and mushroom sauce. Smiles back on faces, I tore through a light and airy white chocolate cheesecake with fresh strawberries while my companion got busy with a chocolate brownie that had a perfect line of fudgy deliciousness running through it, adorned with sugar coated walnuts. When the bill came, one of the puddings had been knocked off by way of further apology. So a triumph for warmth of service.
