We prebooked tickets by picking a time for entry and also included car parking. Made for simple access to both. Met by a guide who explained how the self tour worked and pointed out where to start, where to find toilets and gift and coffee shop, very helpful. Lovely to see such a well preserved castle. The self led walk around was helpful apart from us, and several others we got into conversation with, got a little confused on where we went wrong in not being able to find the way that led us to egress down the tower steps into the courtyard towards the end of the tour.
It's worth a visit. Lovely views. It is a very well restored castle. There is a one-way system in place. Lots of the stairs ways were blocked off, unfortunately. Lots of information on boards around the rooms. It's close to the town centre shops and bus station. Staff were friendly and really good with kids. There's a nice area where you can sit and have a picnic.
I very much recommend visiting this castle. We booked online in advance to avoid any possible issues. I think that it can get busy, hence the half an hour slot options we were given. The gentleman man at the door was very friendly and informative. He gave the kids a map thing to follow. It was a very casual experience. Not intense with information rammed down your throat. We walked around just enjoying this well looked after castle. The tree in the middle of the courtyard was the highlight for me. It made me think of Rivendell from Lord of the rings. The cafe was good and I enjoyed my hot chocolate. I will happily return if I'm up here again.
It's nearly 50yrs since I was last inside Skipton Castle. Back then when you went into the dungeon they switched the lights off!!! No such fun these days, but the castle is a great place to explore. There is a paper guide which marries with the rooms that you pass through. This provides historical information. Of course there is lots to do in Skipton. Canal trips, market days and there is a lovely walk outside of the castle. Parking is easy at The Bailey car park. I would recommend getting tickets in advance which includes parking charges.
It was lovely as always. Skipton is probably one of the best maintained castles in North England. You still see most of the original design and it still feels medieval and not like a converted palace. However, if you are from Europe, do not expect loads of furniture or the likes. That's not how it's done in England. The tour is self guided but very well explained and leaflets are available in several languages. It's s lovely little place and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The café inside the castle is also nice. It's well worth a trip, as is the whole of Skipton.
A great little visit to this castle. It's a self guided tour with lots of rooms and views to explore. Not the least a mature single stem Yew tree planted in 1659.
It's a beautiful well looked after castle with amazing views, has a cafe and a gift shop. It's not wheelchair friendly as there are a lot of stairs inside the castle. You can take dogs but there are strict rules such as have to stay on a short lead and the dogs can't pee on the grassVisited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

On spur of the moment stopped off here on the way to a holiday cottage in the dales. Great castle in amazing condition that has great views over the town. Beautiful chapel too.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Lovely castle, great grounds to walk around very well kept, not so good for people with a walking disability. Nice cafe for a coffee enjoyed the visit. Brought tickets on line and also the car park turns out to be a bit cheaper that way.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
