An amazing trip through history to the industrial revolution and into a more modern times, a lot of history intermingled with a trip down memory lane. This museum is well worth a visit. A great place to visit. We visited with our French friends while they were here. They very much enjoyed learning about some British history. The payment for parking is by app on your phone which wasn't working so went into the mill and a very friendly lady apologised and took our payment. We had drinks in the cafe which were good. We took the guided tour with a very knowledgeable guide Kevin who answered questions and demonstrated the machines. Well worth a visit. I hope they get the shops open again as Matlock Bath seems to have nothing but fish and chip shops.
Small problem: Masson Mills Shopping Centre is CLOSED since Covid Event! There is a small sign in the car park stating this so don't pay for parking unless you want to visit the excellent Café and Museum located next to the large empty building.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
This was brilliant, a chance to see how our cloth was made up until only a few years ago! Such a shame these businesses have gone abroad. Delighted to have purchased some home woven fabric and yarns too - brilliant well worth a visit.Visited onWeekdayWait time1 hr+
August 2024……it’s CLOSED completely….response to review from owner ……: lan, the Textile Museum & Visitor Centre coffee shop & gift shop are currently open Monday- Saturday, the car park is open daily to visitors to both the mill and local area and our meeting and events spaces are available for bookings. Please check our website for details and opening times. The Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop that previously rented space within the mill closed in 2020. If you'd like any further information please don't hesitate to get in touch. Thank you, Masson Mills.
We had an excellent guided tour around this fascinating old mill. Seeing the machinery working really brought the history of the buildings to life. It is well worth visiting. The staff are friendly and helpful and the on-site car parking is very convenient. We relaxed in the cafe with a drink and a snack after our tour and also enjoyed browsing around the mill shop for affordable gifts.
There have been big changes and a lot of internet information is wrong. No shopping outlet any more. Admission to the museum is only on the 2 pm tour, best to book. Car park £3 in addition to entry fees. July 23. People with mobility issues Will have difficulty.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Sir Richard Arkwright's Masson Mill is a water-powered cotton spinning mill. The mill was built in 1783. It forms part of the Derwent Valley Mills, a WORLD HERITAGE SITE. Nearby is Willersley Castle, the house Richard Arkwright built for himself within the parish of Matlock. The retail village, never reopened following the COVID-19 pandemic. They do tours, but unfortunately for us we missed the time of the tours, check there website before going, photo attached there is parking at the mill, they seemed to have changed one of the buildings for the mill into a small multi storey car park.
Very interesting guided tour, self guided is also available. Good to see it open again.
