Went to the Garden cafe in the grounds. Very peaceful setting and had a nice ploughman's and vegetarian platter each followed by a very nice cake. Lovely place to pit stop if you are walking around the Dedham countryside too.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

Beautiful stately home & grounds, still containing personal effects of the artist who once lived there. Sir Alfred Munnings might have become a forgotten artist, in an area so dominated by the landscape master, John Constable, but seeing his full size canvases, each occupying an entire wall space, is truly stunning. Munnings was a local 'character', politically incorrect & larger than life, whose attitude would be castigated these days. In his day he was well known in the village & throughout the area, & whose reputation was as someone either loved or loathed. I've met those in the art world who still revile him for his political views, connections to Churchill & the Windsor's, but whatever you think of the man, his natural talent still deserves the credit it's due. Munnings was a natural, gifted painter, so go see the framed evidence for yourself...
A wonderful place to visit with some fabulous and unexpected paintings not all horses!. Lovely house. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. The only downside is the entry cost - £12 pp which we thought was a bit expensive.
Lovely house once owned by a very prolific artist I'd not heard of before. Great posters for crackers and mustard! Don't miss the cafe either, cakes are wonderful.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
