Expected this place to be buzzing with school holiday, it was sadly lacking! The price is prohibitive for locals as it's far too pricey for most, especially if you add boots, socks, gloves and snacks to the bill! One adult two kids you would look to spend £100 easy! Other than spending money it is good fun and the kids did enjoy it. I recommend making sure you take a sweater of some kind even if the outside temperature is hot. You may even find taking a change of clothes a good idea for kids who have not done this before as you get very wet from falling! Nice experience but not likely to do it again due to cost.
As much as me and the family love ice skating, the cost is very high, once you hire some mediocre ice skates and penguins you're looking at over £70 for am hour or so. Yes the rink is great, can be dangerous at times with some people flying around. Maybe look at offering family sessions earlier or later in the day with an offer for families at a more reasonable price. We no longer come to visit due to the cost. The staff aren't very pleasant either, a smile goes a long way, it's as though they don't want to be there, not great when you've paid out a lot of money!
Visited Planet Ice Widnes with my daughter over the weekend and had a fantastic time! Despite it being fairly quiet, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The atmosphere was pleasant, and we had ample space to skate around. The staff were friendly and helpful, making our visit even more enjoyable. It was a wonderful bonding experience for my daughter and me. We'll definitely be back for more fun on the ice!
Exciting time spent with friends for my birthday! Went to a sub-zero disco, and was able to request multiple songs to the DJ. By the last hour, many people left their penguins around, and many are nice to let others use them, so we didn't need to buy them! But two friends had small accidents where they hurt themself, and there was little help a friend got a "ice pack" but it was literally just a surgery glove filled with cold carbonated juice. The sub-zero disco had a mix of many professional skaters practising, children and teenagers which is what is expected! Overall, a good time, but be careful for blisters and ice skates unloosening themselves!
Fantastic family day out! I love the fact that you can hire a penguin for your little ones that haven't quite got the hang of ice skating & take them on the small, less busy, "Dinky Rink" while they get their confidence. It is very cold here so be sure to wrap up & dont forget your gloves! Skating boots are available to hire too or bring your own. 2 hours fly by here but you can stay as long as you like during public skate! I'd bring your own food & drink as there is no cafe, just vending machines, which is why it lost a star. Plenty of sanitizing stations & clean toilets. Very friendly staff. Definitely visit again.
I have been bringing my 11 year old daughter here weekly for ice skating lessons since Christmas. Two weeks ago she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes - her world has been turned upside down. In those 2 weeks she has had over 100 injections and is monitored 24/7 via a Libre Monitor attached to the back of her arms, which reads her blood sugar levels. Due to T1D, she now must inject herself with insulin prior to eating and drinking and exercise, as well over overnight to keep her levels safe through the night. When attending for her ice skating lesson yesterday we were unable to access any 4G or signal to monitor her app. I asked on reception if I could log on to the wifi at Planet Ice to keep her safe, as if her levels were to drop then Annabel will go into Hypo and she will collapse. If her levels were to go too high, then she runs the risk of long term organ damage. I was told my a very unhelpful member of management named Mikey that I was unable to access the wifi. I continued to explain how serious it is and how it is life or death situations for Annabel. Again Mikey said no. I asked if, given that he would not allow me to access the wifi, if I could leave my phone behind reception - where the signal was working - and they could come and get me if the app sounded an alarm. Again, Mikey said no. Then Mikey helpfully suggested I stand in reception for 2 hours and watch the app myself - even though your own policy doesn't allow children on unaccompanied - and, as I explained, my daughter is unwell and needs monitoring. I feel this amount to disability discrimination. According to Citizens Advice, Service providers must make 'reasonable adjustments' to allow a disabled person to use their services. If they don't do this, they must be able to show that their failure to do so is reasonable. I do not believe that Mikey's reasons for now allowing me access to a life saving app were "reasonable". Mikey's actions disallowed my daughter from carrying out the same activities as the rest of her skating classmates. Overall, Mikey could do with a lesson in disability awareness and customer services. His attitude is unhelpful, rude, dismissive - and dangerous. I have notified the Equality Advisory and Support Service.
Been here a few times, the kids really enjoy it, but ends up being a pricey few hours once you have paid for the extras. Disappointed with last visit. Tried to hire 2 skating aids for the children and was told they only had one left, went to other counter to get skates less than 30 seconds later and saw at least 12 penguins lined up. Sent my daughter back round with my bank card and she got one... So why was I lied to? They are £7 each to hire so why being restricted? I have 2 children who needed them. The boots are looking a bit shabby, my daughter's boots were ripped inside. I would recommend getting own boots if making a regular visit.
This review is about the Ice Skating Centre Planet Ice in Widnes. Planet Ice is in a widnes equivalent area of speke retail, there are a lot of shops/stores & other entertainment places close by such as Reel Cinemas, Pure Gym, Toby Carvery, KFC, Tescos, and more! The overall location is good IF you live in or close to widnes, driving here from Liverpool was quite the task for me and I would not personally say this was a convenient drive for me. If you go in a group booking a taxi and splitting the bill maybe more convenient unless youre experienced in driving to and from widnes that you know their roads, I personally drove over the runcorn bridge and had to pay a toll twice once to go over and once to get back to come back as the roads were not too clear on directions. The overall Ice Skating Centre is moderately big as you'd expect it to be, the customer service is lovely in the establishment and the prices are quite good for how much you are allowed to skate comparing to an ice skating rink that temprorarily opens in the winter i.e. winter wonderland or any xmas ice rinks. The outside of the skating centre is massive and very hard to miss, it comes with a massive car park just like a massive shopping centre and it is not hard to find a parking spot once you get here. Upon arrival we had about 2 hours of skating for £10 which includes skates and no membership, and the car park was quite empty at the time assuming this place does ice hockey events it can get packed at those times but you can't skate at those times regardless. The ice rink comes with skate hire ofcourse as not everyone can afford their own skates or would do so as they don't skate often, tiny lockers which cost about £1 if possible leave any clothes or bags in your car if you drove there as the lockers are tiny and saves you from having to spend a pound to store things. There is a seating area on both sides, 1 side is more of a spectator area and the other side is somewhere for people to just watch close to the entrance of the skating rink. The overall hygiene of this establishment is what you'd expect from an ice skating centre, it's not the cleanest place mainly the toilets, tables, etc but it isn't an unexpected bad. There are several vending machines, gatcha machines, claw grabbing machines, there are male and female toilets and when open a little cafe/seating area where you can eat/drink. This establishment also does do bookings for parties and what not for larger groups. There is a tiny rink for younger kids assumption which was closed when I came to the establishment, it looks like it is for younger children to practice their ice skating as the big rink may be too big & advanced for them advanced as there are a lot more people in the larger rink, more adult skaters who may not be able to skate as well either. In the seating areas i.e. side booths of the rink, there are wooden benches people can sit on to rest, relax before going back onto the rink. I think this is nice but the seats can use a bit of work there are splintery wood just pointing out from the benches and what not, would definitely watch where you sit if you have thin fabric pants on i.e. tights or anything else which can be penetrated easily. The amount of people skating at the time I arrived was quite surprising, I'd seen more people skating in a more expensive ice rink for less time than this skating rink and if this establishment isn't too much of a hassle to get to, I would definitely recommend this place for a day out of ice skating. Overall give this skating rink a 4/5, it is a good ice skating rink but as per my own personal opinion, location could be in a better place, and seats on the side could be better so you don't get a splinter in you before going back to ice skating.
Ice rink and skate hire are great. Staff friendly and knowledgable. But the place felt a bit grubby. Toilets were dirty, hand dryers rubbish and surrounding areas were filthy. Had this not been the case we’d have bought drinks and snacks etc and spent more money. Purely for ice skating tho good and good value for money
Been for public skates and for the Friday Disco and Great rink, friendly staff, great tunes and Excellent family fun.
