Shires Funeral Directors took care of my brother in law Tilak for the funeral. Funeral Arranger Angela was amazing, she was compassionate and very professional and everything my family asked her to do was adhered to. I would also like to mention John the Funeral Director how professional and caring he was with myself and my family and also would like to say a massive thank you to the bearers for the professional service that was given. Myself and my family will most definitely recommend Shires in the future.

From the moment we walked through the door at Shires I knew we had chosen the right place to take care of my dad.  The staff were friendly, empathetic and allowed us to take our time. They kept us updated, rang us the day before the funeral and the day after to make sure everything was okay.  It’s never easy losing someone you love and Shires were very respectful and caring.

Angela from Shires in Bedford is fantastic. She knows every part of the process and really made us feel at ease as soon as we walked in. It's a hard time for any family, but she made the whole process simple and stress free. You really get a feeling that they care and its not all about the money. We received a very personal & professional service from Angela & Bim of Shires Funeral Directors, Bedford. Excellent communication with the family to make sure all arrangements were in place, we felt we were in safe hands at a difficult time. We also appreciated the kind attention on the day from Shires Funeral Director John & the team.

When my husband passed away at home unexpectedly in October this year, I was given no information from our doctor on how to proceed, and myself and my family were left not only grieving but at a loss as to next steps. This changed when my two sons literally walked down our road to Shires on Goldington Road in Bedford. Angela and her team there immediately, figuratively and physically, threw their arms around us and took us into their care. And I really do mean care. Not only did they guide us through and professionally manage everything which needed organising for the funeral, but they showed us so much care and compassion as individuals and as a family. Angela, Catherine, Vim and all their colleagues put looking after the people they're serving at the very heart of what they do - they show a true vocation for the work they do and nothing is too much trouble. They looked after my husband with such care and respect, encouraging us to bring him items he loved and asking us about him so that they had a sense of who he was as a person, because that's what he was to them as well as us. The care they show goes beyond just sorting out a funeral - their door is always open for you to pop in, talk about loss or simply share a cup of coffee. Making a decision on whose service to use and how to organise matters at such an emotional time is never going to be easy, but Shires will help to make that process as emotionally pain-free as possible. Highly, highly recommend.

If I could give more than 5 stars believe me I would! I had enquired elsewhere prior to visiting Shires didn’t like or couldn’t meet what we wanted but the minute I walked in and was greeted by Angela and the atmosphere at shires I knew I’d found the right place. Angela and the team were fantastic in helping me arrange my dads cremation. Sat with us and went through every detail from coffin to gown etc..They are all so lovely and empathetic, didn’t rush us and took the time to listen to us talk about my dad and what he wanted and we wanted. They treated my dad with care and made home look beautiful for his final journey.. They kept me informed every step of the way from the minute they took my dad into their care, sorting out invoices, letting us know when he was in their chapel of rest so we could say our goodbyes to calling me on the day of his cremation to let me know all went ok. There is not a single bad word I could say about Angela, the team or Shires they have been absolutely amazing and made sure my dad had the send off he wanted. I’m forever grateful for the respect and care they have not just my dad but us too!! Would definitely recommend to anyone in the future.. without a doubt!!!!! X
