I recently visited here on an informal walking tour. I was immediately struck by how beautiful the campus was and the surrounding neighborhood very nice (I had no idea!) There are some really gorgeous structures on campus and it's located in the middle of a neighborhood, but doesn't overwhelm it, nor detract from it. When I visited, it was very warm and there were lots of students enjoying the outdoors. I was particularly glad to see an ethnically diverse student population, not something you always find at other universities.

Pros: - Very good university in terms of education quality. Lots of active engagement/discussions with Professors during seminar, even during lecture you are free to ask anything which is not quite possible in many other big/popular universities. - Enthusiastic and supportive staff and faculty staff - Many many opportunities and activities to help you develop personally and become more employable - Students from many other nationalities - Plus, Sheffield is a lovely city with lovely, friendly local people who call you "My Love"! Cons: - The only thing downgrades this university is the health centre. It shouldn't even deserve a Star. Don't even understand why they are there and getting paid for what. For doing nothing for students who are in need of help?? I am not saying this based on only my opinion because I heard it from a number of other students (same international students). Extreme example: One of my classmates (international student) had backache for several months. Obviously, the only place she sought help was Health Centre. They did nothing, of course. So she sought help of GP, but they didn't even bother to take an Xray picture of her back, but taught her some exercises! Her situation deteriorated and she had to discontinue her studies since she could not even move now and had to stay in her bed for quite some time. Then she went back to her country only to discover her back was BROKEN!!! Needless to say, spine is very very serious!! Same situation in my case. Well, not as extreme as hers. Just had severe, constant migraine for several weeks. And sought help of Health Centre. The so-called doctor spared only 5 min to discuss about it and advised me to buy paracetamol myself because the prescription they provide would cost £8.00 (if i buy, it's 16pence!!) and that's it really. I was pissed obviously, maybe it was my fault for having too high expectation comparing this to the Clinic at my previous university in Japan. At least, they would check you and if necessary, they provide you FREE medicine etc, regardless of whether you are international student or not. So I had to bear with my migraine for quite some time, with the help of paracetamol.
