A very nice little walk through at night with all the colourful lights but in some places it's pitch black and slippery steps but signs are present. The waterfall was very beautiful at night but it was a bit too bright in some places and not bright enough, but overall it's a nice 30-45 minute walkthrough with some dinosaurs and history about Shanklin and the surrounding areas.
Shanklin Chine is a fabulous nature reserve. This place has a wonderful atmosphere. The stream and waterfall are amazing. The walk takes about 1h. There are two entrances: one in Old Town on the top of the cliff and another one near the beach, where there are a few car parking options. You can get the lift to travel from the beach car park to get you to the top of the cliff but that is not necessary as you can walk near the beach and still reach the entrance. The place offers a tea room. There are activities for kids to look for dinosaurs, eggs and do a word search.
A beautiful, unusual and very interesting place, well worth the entry fee. It's a gorge, dating back 10,000 years. They've added a path and lots of beautiful and appropriate plants, and lots of information about the history of the chine and the island. There's also a cafe with a small selection of food, drinks and treats and the seating has a great view. There's a small gift shop too. It's a great place to take children but not so good for elderly or disabled as some of the paths are steep and uneven. There is access from the coast side which is much easier.
We parked in the nearby short stay car park and headed to the chine. £9.50 each. You can use your ticket for 7 days so as other reviews suggest maybe go once during the day and again as it gets dark to see all the lights. We went in the afternoon and it was very busy at all. Its lovely to look at and you can feel very relaxed very quickly. It goes down to the beach. Thee is a coffee shop and a little museum together with toilets. The walk back up isn't too bad with quite a few benches if you need a rest!! The beach is nice and sandy with a few ice cream parlours and the pub. Really nice place.
I loved this place. Not every one's cup of tea. A lot of steps and quiet dark. Go off peak for a better price. You can re use your ticket for upto 7days just have to sign the back. Some lovely plants there to.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Very nice fairy place. Especially beautiful around about or after sunset! Worth to visit. A bit pricey to get in… but if you stay near Shanklin you can go back as many times as you want!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Loved shanklin chine. Got a concession for our age. The ticket was valid for a week to visit as often as we wanted so very good value. Visited during the day and at night when the chine was lit and was magical. Very interesting little museum at the bottom all about the part the chine played in d.day and the follow up to d.day - fascinating. Beautiful planting throughout and lovely water features. Dinosaurs for the children a nice touch.
The view is best in the evening around 7 pm. The lights add beauty to the view. Toilet facility and cafe are available. Tickets are valid for 7 days. Unlimited entry for 7 days.
Absolutely delightful place. The history and beauty of the gorge is stunning with lovely views from various locations. Parking can be found in local side streets and beach side. Steep walk to reach entrance to chine but depends which of the 3 entrances are used.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Visited tonight as a bit of a spur of the moment thing after a few disappointing days in Sandown and with ferry delays. Yes I agree with some reviews, the entrance fee is a bit much, however we found the illuminations made it a really magical experience. Even my usually difficult to please 10 year old enjoyed it! I don't think a daytime visit would have the same impact, although as we've got a free return pass with our ticket, we may come back to use the tea room, as it was closed shuts at 9pm. Really interesting little room about the PLUTO with some historic newspaper articles on the walls and some nice artwork. Avoid if you have mobility difficulties or need a pushchair or wheelchair as it's not accessible other than the tea room bit. Kids we're given a couple of trail sheets which they enjoyed. Perhaps some music or sound effects would up the anti for the evening illuminations. Best to park at the Vernon Meadow car park pay and display, can pay on the app and walk down towards the pink house, as the sat nav doesn't take you to it. Overall we had a lovely evening and thought it was beautiful.
