The Shambles has to be one of the busiest and most exciting market streets near York Minster! We visited during Easter, and the whole place was bursting with colour, energy, and the smell of freshly baked treats. Every corner had a shop selling cakes, cookies, sweets, and so many irresistible goodies that it felt like stepping into a festive wonderland.nnEverything was freshly made, which made each bite even more delicious. Most of the shops are run by local York businesses, and it feels amazing to support them while enjoying such a vibrant, joyful atmosphere. A must‑visit for anyone who loves food, fun, and a bit of magic in their day.
Wished we had more time. A quick run through. It was a lovely sunny day, early afternoon traffic was picking up.nnThe shops are all inviting and the people are very welcoming.nnWe will return to York.nThe Shambles looks far from being a shambles with a modern feel in the historic space.

Shambles Market was one of the highlights of my trip to York. The atmosphere felt truly magical, with its charming little stalls, incredible street food, and the mix of local crafts and unique products. The whole market had such a lively but cozy vibe that made me want to stay there for hours. It’s the kind of place that makes York feel like stepping into another world.
Great experience walking through the historic Shambles. Lots of nice little artisan shops and a market. The house are so old, you feel like you are walking through a medieval city! Lovely food part of the market where you can grab a bite and a drink. Lots of international food choices on offer, we had Moroccan and it was delicious
