Wonderful experience at this little trust. You can see all the animals nice and close up, the little monkeys are very very adorable and make the cutest sounds. The Lori's are also really cute and the lady made sure we could see all of them. They also have a nice little gift shop at the end with plenty if bits for kids. All in all really worth it.
This is a fabulous little zoo with wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable staff. We spent the morning wandering round looking at the various animals. All of whom looked happy and active and well cared for. You’re allowed to re-enter on your ticket, and as there’s no cafe we had a walk into town and found a lovely shop and bought a picnic to have by the sea. Then back up to the zoo to see what the animals were up to this afternoon. I find it sad to see bad reviews saying there is nothing to see! These people must be in a rush to get somewhere because a little patience goes a long way and if you take a moment at each lovely enclosure you’re sure to see the animals playing or grooming or simply being themselves. Thankyou so much to the lady on the counter who popped into the nocturnal room to tell us about the loris. She knew all about each one. Why they were there and what they’d been through. It was super informative and very enjoyable. Only sadness was we didn’t see the civets or the armadillos ! But hopefully we will on our next visit !!
Excellent animal sanctuary. Great for smaller ones, as it is not an entire campus to trapse around. The whole place is well maintained with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Very welcoming atmosphere and the animals all appear very healthy and happy. The place is filled with unique and beautiful animals, with detailed facts on their habitats, lifestyle and reasons for conservation. If you're in Shaldon for the day, well worth the trip, also knowing that you can return within the same day so as not to miss feeding time. Also for note, you are made aware of the no facilities or cafe being available inside, but just outside by the entrance to the smugglers tunnel Ness cove, there is a well maintaing public toilet and a coffee/ice cream shop and pub just down the road. All round great
This little place is great! The ticket allows you entry for the whole day and is near a local cafe and beach. The zoo itself is small but has a lot of good displays with fairly active animals, there is also a room of terrariums and a dark room for nocturnal creatures. This is a great place to come with toddlers and children. The boards and paths around the zoo can be somewhat slippery after wet weather.
This is a really small centre. But the way they've designed it, is great. They've filled every space. Good sized cages, that are home to various animals, some extremely endangered due to loss of habitat/deforestation, due to human activity. It's a lovely little place that I will visit again if I get the chance.
Every year I come to shaldon, I always visit shaldon zoo. It is such an amazing zoo which helps many endangered species. All animals are so cute and in great health and are keen to meet visitors. Every year, the zoo makes small, but exciting, changes, whether that be new animals or even simply just a new enclosure. All enclosures are very well kept with all animals happy to be there. After you've been round everywhere and completing the activity book for the younger ones! you can head on through to the gift shop where there is many treats for people of every age to buy. The shop ranges from teddies to branded niknaks and even postcards. If you're in/near shaldon then definitely take a visit to this amazing zoo, it's worth every penny!
Fantastic little place. We have been twice now over 3 years and the work they do is wonderful. I like how close you can get to the enclosures and see the animals. It's clean and you can see how well all the animals are cared for. There was a lovely lady called Jo and she had nothing but time for us. Her knowledge of the animals was incredible. She was happy to answer questions and show us all the animals is the in the dark room. It's a place we will certainly return to on our next holiday.
Great experience for the size of zoo. Lots of different monkeys and also there's a bug/reptile house and nocturnal exhibition which add points to the whole experience. Ticket is valid for a year so will definitely come back.
Small, tiny even, on a tree-covered hill, but packed with great animals to see. Photo conditions challenging but worthwhile.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
