Peaceful and affordable accommodation compared to what a student can get on their own. I have seen my friends staying in a rented house oh god where to start it's very tiny and a miniature kitchen and one restroom shared by 8 people In my opinion money matters but not at the cost of personal space and peace....
Starting with the positives this accommodation is modern, spacious and has lots of things to do on campus; there are also lots of places to socialise. The rooms are bright and open with good storage if you pick that room option and include a decent sized desk. Its only about 10 minutes on the Uni bus to Penrhyn and the town centre, Right on the Themes and you can walk to a nice waterside park. The base kitchen is really decent and each room has their own very small cupboard that locks. Theres a newly opened common room thats really cool but I worry its gonna be trashed really quickly, its pretty busy and a good place to socialise. The buildings have many issues such as faulty security doors, wifi issues, blackouts in the winter, heating and water issues and a lot of unfinished work from the recent refit. The rooms are also not very sound proof as you can hear conversations from rooms above and next to you. The kitchen has faulty ovens and microwaves that only work like 60% of the time. All of this means that maintenance is around a LOT and you are constantly emailing or going to reception at least once a week. The fire alarms are EXTREMELY sensitive and were set off a lot in my block and others causing large group evacuations at like 5am, The security often do random checks of the fire alarms during these if they think someone has been smoking in their rooms and its very tedious. Most of the staff on site are pretty rude, and security is very standoffish and bossy. The day staff are sometimes nice but most of the time they seem bored and angry, There is also not a lot of communications between the night and day staff as some staff will help while others just tell you to come back tomorrow which is fine if you're asking about post but not if you need your heating and hot water fixed in the middle of winter. I also wasn't aware that when I was moving in that I was moving into a building site with workmen and contractors on site, It was very upsetting because I was promised things that weren't finished until my last few months on campus. Please make sure you read it carefully so you can manage your expectations but mostly things seem to be finished in that regard. Please take everything I've said with a grain of salt as this is just my own opinion, Seething was also my first home away from home and I've met a lot of people here. Its genuinely a very nice modern and stylish accommodation in an ideal location for Kingston Uni students, Just please be aware that things like I said above do factor in.
There was a reconstruction of all the buildings. They increased the number of rooms but sacrificed space and ventilation. The corridors no longer have a single window and it's ridiculously hot. even in winter inside the corridors and rooms it reaches 20° without turning on the heating. But in summer the heat is unbearable, you can't stay inside your room because you sweat in streams even with the window open all day. It is cheap, but it is evident that with this reconstruction they were only interested in having more rooms and they did not care about the consequences of this reduction in space.
Much better than I thought it would be! Any maintenance issue is fixed within hours by halls staff, reception staff are really friendly and helpful, and hall are quite close to Surbiton supermarket, train station, etc... much closer than Clayhill. The rooms have everything you could ask for in a uni hall, and the atmosphere is great.
Better than chancellors hall, i like the environment
Nice modern accommodation for students although the room is small it is well presented with book shelves, wardrobe and an ensuite bathroom. Students only have to share a communal kitchen. The university is located at rural central area where there are local takeaways, supermarket and shops. Local buses are available just outside the university building although these buses don't take the ordinary oyster card you will have to use the oyster plus or your bank card to pay for fare and the waiting period for buses are longer.
Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I used to live at clayhill and can honestly say Seething wells are better. They supplied me with a duvet, duvet cover, bed sheet and a pillow set as well as a fan because the rooms get hot at night. The maintenance staff fix issues within a matter of hours and the reception staff are lovely and friendly. Would recommend to any student looking for simple and affordable accommodation. One con is the size of the bathroom but it isn't that bad once you get used to it.
I studied at Kingston university Summer school in 2015, and I must say the rooms were really functioning. Awesome to have your own bathroom with shower connected to the bedroomwhich means I didnt have to share bathroom with anyone but myself. I had the most amazing month living here.
Lived here for a year and a half during my MA. Quite cheap, small rooms but you get your own bathroom. It's a good place to live if you just started university but if you're doing an MA and need to study it can sometimes be hard with all the people partying around you. With that said, it's just a short bike ride to Uni and it's close to Surbiton direct trains to central
Though small, the budget en suite offers what you need and maybe even a little more. Uni bus stops right outside the blocks and it only takes about ten minutes to get to Penrhyn Road campus. Reception staff are friendly and helpful, and it feels pretty safe knowing guards are quick to come out should you need them to.
