Was signposted to ward 2 yesterday, for further assessment. Well done to all the staff, porters, cleaners, and Tea Lady. I was there most of the day, and was offered tea and lunch, free. Everyone was very professional, approachable, and thorough. The nurses and doctors explained all the tests, and what the next procedure would be. The hospital itself was very clean, well signposted to the different wards, and not cluttered. I am an ex NHS worker, retired now, but from all the hospitals I have visited during my career, I can honestly say Scunthorpe is the best!
Thought it would be a quick follow up check up today. 3 hours later I left. I have to say it was quite a pleasant experience. Maybe actually enjoyable. Every person that I had dealings with in the Eye Dept on D Floor was happy and smiley. Very helpful and pleasant. Had every test imaginable on my eyes and with the exception of the dilation drops in my eyes was thorough and painless. Thank you guys x
EXCELLENT HOSPITAL! I don't know why people don't like it and gave so many bad reviews! Would you rather be treated in a hospital where the nurses and doctors barely have time to interact with patients!...would you prefer more a hospital where you "the patient" are left with the sensation you where there and someone just comes to work tick's boxes and go home at the end of shift!
Apart from the long wait for a bed, I received excellent treatment from everyone - the nurses in A&E who were working in cramped, incredibly hot conditions, Mr Golpe and his team, all the staff on Ward 29, the porters, staff in Blue Sky and theatre staff. Everyone was professional and courteous and very keen to maintain patient dignity. I observed them having to deal with being abused both verbally and physically by other patients and they dealt with this in a firm, but professional manner. The variety and quality of the food on offer was also good. Well done SGH, I’m proud of you!
The staff are overworked and underpaid, but the staff i have met, they are doing a fantastic job, so caring and treat their patients in a loving and compassionate manner.. My hat goes out to them all
I can not thank all the staff at Scunthorpe hospital enough for today! Absolutely amazing people. Really looked after me when I had to go because I came off my motor bike . I am truly grateful for your amazing service today thank you so so much
Had a appointment hear today. Lost a days wages and petrol money. Got booked in sat down for someone to come and tell me the Dr wasn't coming. No phone call or nothing.
I was prescribed the wrong type of antibiotics for a possible infection. I still don't know if i have an infection as i left A&E after 3hours of waiting. I had to lay down on a dirty cold floor all of that time as my stomach was contracting & the pain felt too much. I asked the reception staff if there was anywhere i could lay down but she told me rudely to go back to my cold plastic chair. There was laughter everywhere but it wasnt coming from the patients , it was coming from the staff, amongst themselves, clearly happy with the conditions this hospital provides. The hospital is rated far too highly, which makes me believe this isn't representative of patient care and just smoke & mirror's in regards to real patient care.
I have to write a negative review on this hospital honestly my last admission started great in A and E the nurses and Doctors were great. From going on to the assessment ward after spending 24 hrs in A and E who provided proper ward beds. I spent 3 days on the assessment unit arriving around 5pm and no Doctor came to visit until I complained about not been seen so I couldn’t have my medication or pain relief! The nurse had told me they had bleeped many times and eventually at 3 am one arrived that’s terrible and during my admission on there I wasn’t assisted to be washed saying I could go to the bathroom alone crazy One arm was numb my neck in a brace it was horrible sat in tears I’ve been a nurse and I could never compromise on it client’s safety or not assist in at least a wash! I was then moved to The Orthopaedics where my had my X-ray,CT scan and MRI. Most of the nurses were great in administering my medication and BP checks and changing my bedding daily. Unfortunately they too kept insisting I could get in the shower alone on morphine and still n my collar still unable to feel or use my right arm. Diagnosis wasn’t actually known and 3!days I’m asking where’s the Doctor with my results! I later saw one who said it’s a nerve pain from my neck and I’d needed to go to another hospital for further tests so I assumed I would be going to be admitted there but no! I saw only two SHO or Registrar’s but I wasn’t sure but I never saw one consultant! I can’t believe I was being neglected of a wash assisted and I did become upset. After I had asked the staff to not allow one family member in and to remove this Next of Kin off my notes twice! This family person arrived in my Bay shouting st. me I’m horrified who allowed him in??? Obviously I’m shouting as I go past the nurses station and they said don’t shout but they just sat there as I’m waiting for this person to leave. So who allowed him in I’ve no idea but all staff ask each visitor who they’re here to visit and inform the client:patient they did ring security checking they had left. I rang the police station explaining and they took a statement. I must admit after all this and two domestic’s behaviour I’d had enough then. I went for a walk outside and on my return to the ward a nurse said I’m moving to another ward I said why and when?? It’s a getting ready for going home ward still orthopaedics but I wasn’t going home so I said who said!! Bed manager so I told them to tell them I refuse after two wards already!! So I went to PALS office complaining about these situations and I sell discharged myself! I was shocked at the whole admission for these reasons. I saw an entirely wrong approach to nursing and the trained staff taking computers on wheels and still having to write the same things in paper form. Nursing is about patient care not moving around different wards so there’s no continuity of care and we all know our government are to blame for this!! In some way’s I feel sorry for the nurses. Too many chiefs trying to save money for the NHS typical governments Nurses no wonder they can’t get staff!! I know this is happening all over the country!!!
