The Salvation Army's Hastings Citadel is a vibrant Christian Church for everyone, dedicated to taking the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Hastings, in a practical straightforward approach.
Our congregation is made up of ordinary people of all ages and from all walks of life, who regard The Salvation Army as their place of worship, and enjoy the sense of belonging that comes from being part of our active Church programme.

History: a small Insight from 1870 to 1995
1870 as the first Christian mission Station Outside of London Holding its first meetings in the Market Hall, George Street, on 17 December.
1883 The old Iron Fort became the Home of The Salvation Army.
1884 -- 1910 Persecution of Salvationist began.
Many members during this time were arrested simplifying for being true to what they believed in help those in need and standing up against those ills of our world that harm so many people and families.
1916: Corp went through a spiritual low due so many lost in WW1
1917: Slum Officers as they were known then , we call them Social Service Officers today were appointed to Hastings Old Town area.
1917 Saw Home League Commencing under Mrs Sully as Secretary
1922 Lecture given by Commissioner E Higgins Illustrated by 100 Slides.
1923: 3 Day Campaign Led By Commissioner and Mrs Booth-Tucker. Torchlight procession from St Leonards to Hastings Station to meet the Special Guests.
January 1930: Stone Laying for New Hall May - opening of New Hall by Mayoress Mrs FM Russell Davies. The original Specifications State: Senior ( Worship Hall ) 450 People. YP Hall( Community Hall) 300 People.
1932 Hall Solemnized For Marriage. First Wedding Bro. Laves to Sis. Rene Wood.
1933: Presentation of Colours to Songster Brigade
1935: Hastings I becomes Hastings Citadel
1940 Saw almost all of YP evacuated and may becoming Soldiers.
1945 Eric Beatty returned after being POW and Harry Bandsman Harry Patterson -- Mentioned in dispatches for Bravery in Burma
1951 New Quarters Purchased at 120 Stonefield Terrace.
1958: Margaret Griffiths Commissioned and Stationed in West
Africa
1960 General Kitching Led the 90th Corp anniversary Celebrations .
1969: Visit of Captain Jpy Webb of The Joy Strings to present Guitar to Newly formed rhythm Group The Soul Agents.
1970: Centenary Celebrations included visit of Eric Wickberg
1983: 113th Corps Anniversary Celebrations commenced with a pageant depicting the history of the corps. Major and Mrs Nigel Mason Special - an ancestor of Mrs Mason had Laid one the foundation stones for the Hall
1993 Officers representing may different territories and resident at the international College for officers visit and give and insight into a worlds wide army
1995: 125th anniversary celebrations commenced with a visit by Broley Temple Songsters. Specials - David and Doreen Edwards.
As an integral part of the Christian Church, Hastings Citadel Corps proclaims The Lord Jesus Christ as the only Saviour.
Through our Worship, Testimony and service to the community, our Mission is to glorify The One True God FATHER - SON - HOLY SPIRIT, and by employing our God given talents, help to build His Kingdom upon Earth, in support of the World Wide Mission of The Salvation Army.
