About

Our passion for crafting the finest dairy ice cream is as fresh today as it was in 1908

Story

S. Luca has been crafting the finest dairy ice cream for over 100 years. Our family’s dedication to our grandfather’s original recipe and passion for sourcing quality ingredients has established S. Luca as a Scottish treasure.

Made from fresh Scottish double cream and whole milk, S. Luca Dairy Ice Cream is renowned for its smooth, creamy texture and sophisticated taste. Although we have dedicated ourselves to perfecting the traditional flavours, our glaciers have also created a number of exciting new ice creams such as New York Lime Cheesecake and our famous Toffee Fudgy Wudgy. In addition, we have also introduced a refreshing range of sorbets and low fat frozen yogurts.

S. Luca Dairy Ice Cream is available at our ice cream parlours in Muselburgh and Morningside as well as many of Scotland’s finest restaurants, hotels and independent retailers. Our unique fleet of ice cream vans, including arguably the world’s only vintage Rolls Royce ice cream van, can be found serving cones at many of Scotland’s seaside resorts and country parks. Our ice cream vans are available to hire for weddings and private functions.

Popped in for a couple of ice creams and was I surprised it was the best ice cream I have had in years and the young lady that served us was so nice and helpful, the ice cream is made in the factory next door, if you are in the area and like ice cream you must pop in and try some, I highly recommend.
- Positive points-nnGorgeous ice cream, came on the bus from Dalkeith. Worth the 40 minute journey. I see a lot of people feel the same, as there was a queue and people being dropped off by taxi’s for it. The queue went quickly and there was flavours aplenty, including a very interesting black ice cream unfortunately I couldn’t try it as it may have had activated charcoal which I can’t have with my medication.nnIt’s £5 for 3 large scoops, which sounds expensive at first but works out cheaper than other places I’ve been to Equis and icandy Livingston as the portions are bigger. Not sure if they do soft serve mr whippy but they have a chocolate counter. They also have a cafe but I never saw it so I assume it either has a different entrance or you have to scoot round the counter.nnThere is also a counter selling luxury chocolates.nnThe staff are patient and happy to confirm on the phone when they are open.nnLuca’s is also dog friendly. We didn’t take our dog in purely as it was busy at the takeaway area and our dog is notoriously greedy!nn-Negative points-nn- not much room for queuing, if you were disabled and in a wheelchair you would really struggle and likely have to send someone in for you. No ramp either.nn- limited menu during winter/cooler weather. We went in march and there wasn’t many flavours on offer. Also, in regards to flavours, some of the ones we saw in march weren’t available yesterday July so bear this in mind if you’re looking forward to a particular kind. If you ring up though I’m sure they will be happy to let you know if they have what you’re looking for.nn- The different flavours and allergens are not displayed clearly enough. I fancied the black ice cream and it was my partner who told me it would likely contain activated charcoal. Some of the flavours have ingredients listed online, but there is a limited amount that do and lots of today’s flavours were not on the website, along with a couple that were displayed online but they didn’t have in store.nn- This shop is a bit of a trek from the beach, and while they have a small seating area, it’s beside the main road. It’s also right where the queues are. However there are plenty of benches around the grassy patch in front and we usually eat here and then walk to the beach.nnOverall 4 stars from mennIn my photos, I got the rhubarb and custard orange, strawberry pink and blueberry yoghurt white with purple fruit
Lovely place, lovely staff, fabulous ice cream. My dad's been getting his snowballs here for 65 years.
Lovely relaxed vibes and friendly staff, food is fresh and tasty. will have to come back for the ice cream
