Came for a early valentines meal, one of the first ones in. We was welcomed in and shown to our table, was then presented with fresh bread which was still warm. Ordered drinks which I ordered off the cocktail menu for valentines and what seemed to be the manager was talking to us about making them. Really friendly, had a laugh and made sure we was well looked after! Food was absolutely unreal, by far one of the best steaks I’ve had! You got plenty of food and the manager was more than happy to tell you if you ordered too much which I thought was a nice touch as he didn’t want you paying for something you didn’t eat which was fair enough. All the staff was lovely, very cosey feel. Will definitely be going back, worth the hours drive!
Absolutely fantastic 20oz t-bone steak, melted in your mouth, awesome taste excellent choice of sauces, vegetables and chips. Pudding was home made jam rolly poly. Brilliant. Staff can't do enough for you. Definitely recommend very highly. Looking forward to our return, thank you for a wonderful experience.
Absolutely love this place. Steak is top notch and lovely old pub atmosphere along with being steak themed. You get what you pay for... Very nice food, drinks and friendly staff.
Worth the trip out of York… amazing food, good size portions my fellow Americans won’t be disappointed and great service we had issues getting a taxi back to our hotel in York and they were very much invested in our save return, calling the hotel and other taxis on our behalf… even offering to give us a ride as a last resort
Starter and steak ok. Pudding disappointing. Pimms Eton Mess, poor presentation in breakfast bowl, too much cream, little fruit and meringue, no hint of Pimms. Also chips not as good as roast potatoes of the past management. Service fine and attentive.
This place is outstanding. From the food to the service been going for over 10 years and it never disappoints the tiger king prawns are so tasty and mouth melting the steak you could cut with a spoon its that tender. Even ordered a cocktail which I didn't like - my fault entirely but still removed from the bill for me. Will forever be my favourite steakhouse, there is only one steak that has come close to comparison and that was at a Michelin star restaurant.
Absolutely stunning meal tonight! Amazing staff that can't do enough for you. I had chicken wrapped in smokey bacon and it was stunning. My partner had 16oz rump. We ordered loads of sides that we didn't needonly because we are greedybest meal he'd had in a long time he said. Great place will he returning!
We dined at 8.15 on a Saturday night and we walked all the way through the pub to our table and I didn't notice another table that was vacant. Our drinks order was promptly taken and when the arrived our food order was taken. I had the rib eye steak and my wife the beef Wellington. I ordered the steak medium and when it arrived just an observation not a criticism in my opinion thought it more rare. TBF the waitress offered for it to be taken back and cooked accordingly but I just decided to fo with it. I decided not to have any of the sauces on the menu just good old fashioned English mustard. At this point its going to be an abundance of clichés. It was like putting a hot knife through butter and the steak just melted in my mouth. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The beef Wellington was of equal standing and the size of it! Huge!. An accompliment of thrice cooked chips and a medley of vegetables was also served. £110 sounds a lot and probably is but didn't leave feeling that it was.

Food was fabulous, as it always has been. We took 2 friends for their first experience of the food and they were blown away. The staff were universally both helpful and pleasant and the hosts were charming and friendly. Can't recommend highly enough.
