A lot of building work taking place outside for the new bus station, access to from the Hovercraft is now improved with a temporary footpath direct to the footbridge, and you can at least see what is now taking shape
Visiting Rude to take part in the Isle of Wright half marathon. Took Wrighline boat from Portsmouth Harbour which only takes 25 minutes. On disembarking at Rude you can either walk along the pier to the seafront or take a short train ride in a 3 carriage train. The train is rather quaint is like a 1950/60's London underground train. When you get to the end of the pier the train goes to other destinations in Rude or you can disembark and there is a bus station outside serving all the destination's in Ryde. Also the hovercraft crossing over to Portsmouth is nearby and only takes 10 to do crossing. However during busy periods it is best to book a seat since it only takes 85 passengers.
A really well maintained station with lots of space and a large waiting area. Also has a help desk which is handy for picking up tickets or getting help.
Sold me a ticket and I had decided not to book online to support the ticket office I stood waiting for the train Another customer told me the train was cancelled. The two people in the ticket office who could see me didn't bother to come out and tell me . Consequently i missed ny boat. They have lost my custom. Which is something I never thought I would say. They don't deserve loyalty. Unfortunate for the decent staff. RIP Ryde ticket office
Very clean when looking for bus stop
Amazing staff who really went the extra mile giving us a great recommendition and printed all of our tickets of our Ilse of wight adventures. The station was pretty with a nice single platform very near to the hovercraft terminal.
Well maintained and upgraded, I think along with the new class 484 trains it suits the modern day perfectly. Platform 2 is derelict but they've probably not got enough start to run it. Saved me from a long walk down the pier.
Lots of open space and ATM services, although the station does smell a bit!
Can get very busy very quickly and with only 2 carriages isn't the best! But staff are always so friendly and it's such a cheap way to get around some of the island you can't fault it really
Really incompetent service by ticket operator Lee. After about 10 minutes of struggling and phoning a colleague he was still unable to process a refund on tickets. This was due to purchasing the tickets from the machine while the trains are not running. When asking why there is no sign on the machine he explained that they can not put any non company issued documentation on the machine. One would think that trains not being in operation from from the station would verify the need for a sign preventing passengers from making the same error or that employees would receive additional training to assist travels. Really disappointed by this and it spoiled our morning adventure.
