Great for last minute appointments whenever in need, long waiting times but thats to be expected of such a large busy practice

Up until this afternoon, I went to Wardlaw Medical Practice in here, which use to be called Dr Birkmyre and partners. It’s still the same practice minus Dr Birkmyre and with the addition of Dr Duffy who I had the misfortune of seeing this afternoon. I had a normal appointment made for an eye problem, not an emergency appointment. The last time I visited this Drs was over 2 years ago, so I’m not the type of person who’s at the drs every 2 minutes wasting the GP’s time. I was called in 25 minutes after my appointment time as the Dr was running late. I briefly explained what the problem was, a badly infected eye. I was rudely told that I should have made an appointment with my optician as she wasn’t capable of fully examining my eye. She then gritted her teeth and rudely shook her head at me while scribbling down on a piece of paper. I’m not a medical GP, but I think it’s fair to say that a red swollen eyelid, with pain and discharge coming out of my eye justified a visit to the Dr. I have also paid my national insurance contributions and taxes since I was 16. After 5 minutes of watching this Dr huff and puff in front of me, going in and out of a medical book, she told me she would give me antibiotic eye drops for my eye, and I quote “On the understanding that I make an appointment with an optician within 24 hrs”. When I asked her if an optician can prescribe antibiotics, she said some of them do. I almost had to pinch myself at this point. I worked as a dental practitioner for over a decade. I dealt with lots of patients on a daily basis during that time, and I was always professional, polite and courteous to all of my patients. This Dr Duffy ought to be ashamed of herself. She was rude and condescending to say the least, and I definitely won’t be returning to this practice. It makes you wonder who is responsible for the oversight and governance of GP practices in the area when you see standards like this.

I've never been to a more useless surgery with such unenthusiastic staff. They only book appointments for that week, so when you call looking for an appointment you're told you need to call at 8am the next day because they have no appointments. However, by the time you get through to someone the next day they have no appointments left and you have to call the next morning! Rise and repeat, it's a terrible system! I've heard calling up in the morning for emergency appointments, but never to try and get an appointment in a weeks time. The staff are never helpful and always sound like they would rather be elsewhere, not a lick of empathy from any of them and the doctors, if you ever manage to get an appointment with one, seem like they don't want to be there either. All the ones that I've encountered don't make you feel comfortable or welcome at all and one of them have the solution to drink fruit juice with one of my ailments! I was gobsmacked! You'd get better medical advice from Wikipedia! I don't rate this surgery in the slightest and giving it 1 star was generous.
