Excellent small museum reflecting Coniston and some of its more famous people ' John Ruskin, Donald Campbell and Arthur Ransome to name a few. Exhibits are well.laid out and described. Particularly enjoyed the Bluebird Wing with its many poignant exhibits. A visit to Ruskin and Campbell's graveside finished off a memorable visit. One small point, try the Hardwick Cafe next door to the museum - excellent
A brilliant little museum in the heart of Coniston. Fantastic information about the life and times of Donald Campbell also local history artifacts and memorabilia.
Lovely Museum - absolutely what Ruskin himself said it should be - a wonderful journey through some of Coniston's historic people and moments - the original Swallows and Amazon's dinghy and Campbell's World Speed Record adventures with an interesting and well informed selection about Ruskin himselfVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
One of the best small museums in the country! Endlessly fascinating — and one ticket purchase lets you return multiple times in a year, so great value.
Very interesting, well worth £7.50 entry. Was particularly charmed by Ruskins paint box,a great addition to the pictures exhibited.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Interesting, albeit small museum. I would have liked to have seen a general overview of Ruskin perhaps on the wall somewhere. The museum appeared to assume lots of information about him and instead focused of displaying his artwork. I also would have liked more information about his marriage.
Well laid out, probably around 60mins for light review, longer if you read every detail. Main attraction is of course bluebird, but the rest is interesting as well. Very nice and welcoming staffVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
The treatment of Bill Smith, his 15 years of effort, and the K7 Bluebird boat itself from this museum is quite frankly disgraceful. From what I understand, the boat was restored to fully operable condition, and the museum wants to, what, put it in a room for eternity? They would rather have the boat torn apart than have it ever meet the water again as it was intended to? It's quite frankly a complete waste, an insult, and a spit in the face to everything Donald Campbell ever achieved, the direct opposite to this museum's entire ethos. Extremely disappointing to hear the museum bicker and whine over the entirely imprudent non-use of an operable historical artifact.
Very interesting museum, covering the origins of Coniston, John Ruskin and the Bluebird speed record attempts. Facinating well worth a visit.
One of the best small local museums I have ever had the fortune to visit. A huge amount of information across the 3 sections of the museum: Coniston and its history, Donald Campbell, and John Ruskin. Some great items, beautifully presented information, and the lady at reception was very knowledgeable and friendly. I'm definitely going back again.
