Rufford Old Hall is a beautiful place for all the family to visit. The Hall is full of historic artifacts throughout with guides to give you information about each room and area. There is a tearooms with outdoor seating area and toilets. You also have plenty of seating through out the lovely gardens and grounds. You can take a circular walk along the canal up to Mary's Marina where you can sit and look at the Narrow Boats Moor up. A visit to St Mary's the Virgin Church is well worth a look as it beautiful inside and as lots of old grave, we found one dated 1703. Enjoy if you decide to go
This was quite the site to visit. The best part for me was the carved wooden screen. Speaking to staff there it is their most treasured possession and I can see why. There are many interesting stories surrounding this place and there were ample staff on hand to share some of them. The cafe serves good food and the grounds are lovely. There was a trail for the kids too which they enjoyed. Would definitely visit again.
This is a great place to visit. Plenty to see inside the house and really interesting. There is also the fantastic gardens to explore anytime of the year. There is are several suggested walks along the canal and the family church is open some of the time. As you would expect with National Trust, there is a car park, toilets and cafe.
Visited 25/10/2022, limited parking spaces, very friendly staff from initial point within coach house to those who guided us around the hall, including a fab lady who entertained with the old world toys on display. The tour of the house at moment due to renovation work a lot of items are either covered up or located elsewhere we were advised to some point next year. Family friendly location and way to move a buggy around if required. Would recommend Great
Had a really nice day out with my friend here today- the grounds were beautiful and autumnal. The grounds are beautifully maintained- had a lovely conversation with the groundsmen of how they upkeep the hall grounds. On this note, all staff were very friendly and informative within the hall- beautifully preserved and interesting to walk around, regardless that there was some work being done currently. There was a donation box for apples grown on the grounds- this was a lovely touch and a nice way to raise funds for the preservation of the building. I also noticed bike hire for children and treasure trail kits that look awesome for the young ones. I'd not brought my dogs today, but I feel though there are nice areas to walk them, alot would be missed on a day out here as alot of places are restricted to dogs. Lovely day
A lovely place to visit with a beautiful old elizabethan hall and buildings. A nice on-site cafe as well for a break in our journey and the place was not too busy when we were there. We had a leisurely walk around the house looking in the rooms and enjoying the various items on display.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Nice compact trust property. Did a nice tour of the house which was really interesting with staff to talk you through the history in every room. Sadly there was much renovation and building works going on so less to see than usual. This also spoiled the gardens - that said, there isn't that much to see there. Definitely worth a visit but probably more in the high season.
Really enjoyed our visit here today, all the staff were really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The lady at the entrance explained where we should walk towards the marina and back along the canal. Dorothy who took a group on the guided tour was very engaging and knew all about the hall and the family and made it a fun and engaging experience. I would definitely recommend a visit, the cafe looks great but we visited after eating a carvery lunch so was too stuffed to try anything, but definitely would do.
Nice half-day walk at Rufford Old Hall. Luckily, the house is open during the winter. The staff were very welcoming, especially David, he was professional, and a good storyteller and other staff were very knowledgeable! Quite a lot of parking space and highly recommend the NT member, and you can get free entry!
Historic home of the Hesketh family. Wonderful original old hall and more recent but still old additions. Not all of the interior is accessible to the public and photography is limited to the old hall only which is a shame. March too early to see the gardens and walks at their best so will revisit later in the year.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
