RSPB Dungeness
"At almost 1000 hectares, RSPB Dungeness boasts a range of habitats. Predominantly shingle habitat with its unique lichens, plants and insects it has the largest expanse of shingle anywhere in the world. Dungeness also has open freshwater habitat which provides a home to thousands of wintering wildfowl and nesting seabirds. It also has important fen habitat, wet grassland and wildflower meadows. We have a visitor centre, car park, toilets, RSPB shop, refreshments, nature trails and viewing areas.Dogs are allowed in the visitor centre, in the car park and on the public footpaths only, and are required to be kept on a short lead at all times due to the sensitive nature of the wildlife habitats."

Lovely place to visit Our visit was on Sunday afternoon the 15th May Weather was a bit cloudy and breezy We were Greeted with a warm welcome and a friendly smile from the Lady on duty at the entrance as she checked our membership. Inside the main building there's a coffee/tea lounge that also has biscuits/cakes and ices for purchase they also some 2nd hand books for sale to help with funds Its a lovely viewing area to relax in before or after your visit. Lots of information about the reserve Viewing scopes in the main shop that are fixed on nesting birds are a great idea. We had a couple of hours to explore the reserve area and give us a taste of what can be seen and heard during a longer visit Plenty of benches scattered around to sit down and enjoy the sounds and watch the birds plus a few hides and viewing areas On our way out we stopped for a few minutes to watch the Marsh Harrier looking for his evening meal it was so close and a joy to watch We can't wait to return and spend a few more hours enjoying what it has to offer. On leaving the reserve we drove down to the Lighthouse area where we spent a few minutes with a hungry vixen we only had a few sweets with us and she decided that we were not a threat so much so that she fed from Joyce's hand Wonderful to experience and to watch. It all added to a great visit..
Great place to visit. England's only desert. Lots to see: wildlife, beach, lighthouse, Dungeness power station and Romney Hythe and Dym church Railway. At least 2 pubs offering food and drink. Ice-cream available from the one at the end. Lovely sea to swim in.
This was our first visit.. What a wonderful site. It was so peaceful as only a few people there . A friend invited us and we were so glad we went. Spent about 3 1/2hours there. Amazing place and will return in the warmer weather gto see the smaller birds too.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Wonderful site, nice place to find a bit of solace, incredibly peaceful. Shop has some great deals on quality bird feeders at the moment, very well made RSPB branded items. Staff are friendly and helpful. Much to see and do across a well managed site, well worth a visit.Wait timeNo wait
A lovely volunteer served us and helped us with a membership issue. A great walk around. We saw Gadwall, Shoveler, Shelduck, Tufted Duck, Cormorant, Coot, Widgeon and Marsh Harrier. Leave yourself 2-3 hours tomwalk.round and spend time at each hide.
Great reserve. Good bird watching. Large numbers of wildfowl and waders in winter. Great white egrets often present. Lots of hides overlooking various pools and lakes. Some easy access paths but others become rutted and muddy in winter. Also good for those with an interest in butterflies, dragonflies and plants. Nice shop. Viewing gallery with scopes in shop. Small fee to enter the reserve if you are not a member of the RSPB. Reasonable sized car park with disabled parking. Toilet block including disabled toilets in car park.
This would be a nice place if it wasn’t for the nuclear plant next door... and the noisy road... and hundreds of bird watchers. The huts look quite nice and they offer good protection against the elements. You’ve really got to be into birdwatching to enjoy this place!
What an amazing place! Saw so many different bird species! Staff were very kind and helpful. Will be going back soon!
We visited on a chilly but sunny day and were so pleased to see a pair of glossy Ibis and a Marsh Harrier as well as other birds.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Lovely and quiet place to walk. Saw a marsh harrier and heard a bittern! The first few hides are currently closed so ask to take the car to the next open one if you have mobility problems.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
