Our family of five visited The Royal Oak for dinner and drinks and are very happy with our experience. It’s no small feat to satisfy all of us but the staff came through and delivered delicious food and drink and provided a comfortable atmosphere. We will certainly be returning.
This a what pubs should be like in York, amazing vibe and well preserved 17th century pub that sells good beer and the food is some of the best I have tried in York. The fish and chips were amazing.
Wonderful restaurant and pub with an extremely friendly service, very good food and a cosy british atmosphere.
Lovely place to go for a nice afternoon meal. The parlour is nice and cosy, and the pub atmosphere is relaxed. I had a plant based chicken burger that was very tasty and good value for money. The other vegan option of a butternut squash Wellington, is also very nice so I'm told Ben the server provided excellent service throughout. I recommend a visit here!
I had lunch with big groups a couple of times at the Royal Oak and we really enjoyed everything there. The service managed by Jasmine is very efficient, she makes sure everything is taken care of. Eve is really nice and helpful, and Gareth cooks really tasty food, and takes good care of every customer. I highly recommend that place.
Today my friend and myself had a lovely lunch here. The staff were extremely helpful and courteous and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. Great atmosphere. Would definitely go again.
I have been living in York over 10 years and I had been inside until Easter Monday evening. I decided to have something to eat and popped in. Before work...!! Very well kept pub, high ceilings and some nice little snug rooms. It felt like secret rooms There was a conservatory room at the back of the pub, that had steps up to it and let in good light. The pub was clean and many interesting rooms. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The menu looked interesting on a few things. We wanted the Mushroom pie, however that was not available. My partner had a steak pie with trimmings signature dish and really good and I had a tandoori chicken burger with baji, pickle and a little salad with skinned fries. Both dishes were very really good. Prices were reasonable.
This gets 3.6 stars. Decent selection of beers and glad to see they keep a traditional pub with lots of different rooms. Staff could have been a bit more welcoming and friendly.
Lovely cosy pub with lots of nooks n crannies. We had dinner which was really nice . Fish n chips and sausage n mash. Tasty. Will go again when back in York. Was a bit noisy with some men coming in for a pint but didn't put us off
We were looking for a family friendly pub, and Royal Oak did us well. Great food, and staff member Ben in particular was great with our 7-year-old. Well done Royal Oak, well done Ben.
