After an 8 minute drive down single track lanes, wecame to the marvellous timber-framed and thatched Royal Oak pub at the village of Wootton Rivers. The car park is very small, but there is an overflow car park not far away. The pub itself is charming with a log fire and real ale. The staff were warm & friendly. The downside was that we had to wait a long time for our food to appear, but when it did appear it was great. I had a truly delicious veggie burger. The pub is not far for the Kennet and Avon canal, so I guess that some of the customers were walkers following the canal path who had dropped in for lunch. The village itself is beautiful with many thatched cottages. There is a feeling of being lost in the green folds of the Wiltshire countryside.
