Currently it is a degree factory like someone mentioned earlier for wealthy international students. Dont waste your money on this, cause big checks from asians is all they want. If I see anyone who drove RCA into its current pathetic state, I would surely provide him/her with the most fantastic slap on the head ever!
I went to see the Royal College of Art Graduate Show 25-30 June. It was really interesting and colourful. Definitely worth a visit when in the area.
The 1-year MAs are an absolute joke and detrimental to student development, wellbeing, and growth. I feared this would be the case when they first announced them a couple of years back, but now I'm here it's turned out even worse than I'd anticipated. I'm fortunate in that I have a scholarship, but it's still extremely disappointing; I'm furious for those paying the increased tuition fees out of their own pockets. Although important to note is how extremely wealthy a significant chunk of the student body is; indeed, far more than many other 'prestigious' institutions. It's been especially difficult here as a disabled student, to the point where I'm now so utterly exhausted that I'm leaving wasting not only years of hard work getting here, but a significant scholarship that someone else could've benefited from too. And to be clear: this isn't the fault of any tutors, techs, or other student-facing staff; it's the decisions made by senior staff that have turned this into a pointless 'degree factory'. I didn't come here for a piece of paper; I came here to develop, to explore, and to grow. What was once a great college is now a money-grubbing shambles. Honestly, if you're looking for fine art post grad-level study, try The Slade or Royal Academy Schools, or perhaps one of the alternative art schools. The RCA is not the place it used to be.
A very good art university with excellent students, teachers and facilities. I love here!
Their administrative system is terrible… I didn't realise how bad my experience in RCA could be until I’d graduated for half a year and still haven't received my certification. Think twice before paying the expensive tuition fees...
RCA is an AirPods Max: - Over designed in packaging - Under developed in features - Expensive - Delivers way less than cheaper competitors - Sir Jonathan Ive did nothing about it, and ran off quickly
Good atmosphere! Very cozy building in the city center! I was waiting for my friend inside. Very kind atmosphere! Nice students. Overall, I liked it
Im not a fan, I heard bad things about this place
Edit: most of their 2 year programmes have been replaced by 1 year now. So they can attract more int’l students aka cash cows Congratulations RCA for achieving better turnover rates and selling more diploma$ —— It’s a good place if you’re a visitor who loves arts. It’s a horrible place if you’re the student. Some tutors were nice but the school is corrupt and they don’t care about your complaints as long as they can still sell their degrees. They also don’t treat visiting lecturers fairly. Many tutors in different departments left during my study, and even the heads of programmes Yes we’re headless most the time when I was there. The workshop space is small compared to other art schools. Please if you want to study/work there think again.
The college is opened today with strict social distancing measures in place. This internationally famous art college welcomed all their new students after a long wait. They enjoyed their first day at college by attending their face to face classes. The experience may be not as usual but hopefully the situation will improve gradually. I went their as part of my job and found the buildings are painted recently and the classrooms are also different from last year. The college authority is trying hard to start their usual job to do and I know it's genuine.
